Hello all

Am Having issues with my a3 Sline 56 plate 2.0 tfsi as it judders on accelerating from starting cold until it hits 90 degrees. From their it's fine so in going to change the spark plugs to see if it stops the above

Can anyone recommend me some good plugs and a tool to remove them.

Ta

have you had it checked for codes???
could be lots of things
has it got the new coil packs fitted from the audi recall??
also spark plugs would perform better in cooler conditions anyway it's simple physics

Check with Audi if it's had the coil pack recall. I had the same issue and the recall sorted it. Just ring them and ask what recalls are outstanding. 😊

Just rang them and they will happily take a look, so booked it in for next Friday. Glad I asked the question

They did say there is a recall but unsure if it will rectify the problem but I'll leave it in their 'capable' hands

Cheers for the help

Could be a temp sensor prob.

I use a box spanner, extending its length using a smaller box spanner which slips inside the larger one.
Then withdraw the plugs with one of these grippers.
Easy pezie..

Or just use a proper spark plug socket which holds the spark plug for you:thumbsup:

Socket wrench, extension bar and deep spark plug socket (21mm IIRC) is all you need

Ok, recall of coils has been completed and new ones fitted, changed to Bosch iridium spake plugs at the same time. Has made a difference, juddering is about 60% better. Plugs were a bit sooty an the second one was all oily. Could it be a seal causing this ??

Used the guide on here to remove engine cover and do the plugs myself

Next job is the air filter. Going to buy one of eBay for about £7 and do that at the weekend. Any one got a link on replacing the air filter on a 56 2.0TFSI

Always best to use a proper spark plug removal tool as it incorporates the rubber cushioning to holder the plug to remove aswell, rather than relying on other tools to lift the plug out, if something of another tool was to fall into the cylinder, you're not gonna be happy, whereas these tools are almost fool proof.

Still juddering after plugs and cool pack have been changed

Next is the air filter??

Any other suggestions for me to try next

Check new plugs for oil, if they have, then obviously there's an issue as it could be the oil is being burned up with the heat of the cylinder & leak seal/head etc are expanding with the heat & only when its standing cold its getting oil into cylinder, speculative as not seen/know the car, but stands to reason atm based on your reports.

Also (if the new plugs are clean) try unplugging your MAF and go for a drive. Could be that the MAF needs to be cleaned or replaced.

I wouldnt clean the maf tbh, fairly sensitive, just replace if its this.

I'll unplug the maf, and report back, was totally unaware i could run it when disconnected...Yes NHN the second spark plug from the maf/turbo pipe had oil when I removed it. What's the price gonna be on getting the seal sorted??

Ouch, not pretty. How have you concluded that? Bore scope?

I was going to say check fuel filter, and possibly try fuel line cleaner, but might be worth checking injector spray pattern if you get them out (change seals whilst they're out).

I've it it back with Audi on Friday, they have said they wil put it It on a diagnostics machine and do a compression test. I'll update after.

I'm sure fuel filter would affect all cylinders right?
