Help please re interior monitor alarm

Does anyone know how the interior monitor alarm works. I can sit in my locked car - wave my arms around and the alarm does not go off. When outside the locked car, you can rock the car from side to side and the alarm does not go off. I locked the car with the side window open, put my arm in the car and the alarm did not go off. We have checked to see if the deactivate interior monitor button on the door works and it does, so we need a bit of assistance please....... otherwise I may have to sleep in the car overnight!

There is a period of time in which after you have alarmed the system, it will still be in the 'process' of alarming it.

So lock it, leave the windows down for a 5 mins, then wave your hands through the window.
