Bonsoir! Hope someone can offer some long distance advice!! (2.0 TDi BKD DSG 2005)
Having set off to the South of France today, my "ECON" light would not go off! So it was rather warm and emotional in the car without some cool air! Having been stuck in some traffic for about 30 mins, I saw the engine temp gauge rise to over 90, so turned up the cabin heat to cool the engine back to 90. ( I dont think it got over 110!!). Once out of the traffic, I stopped to check the car over. All seemed fine although neither of the fans were running as I would have expected. Fortunately I was able to check the car for codes and had this:
Address 01: Engine Labels: 03G-906-016-BKD.lbl
Part No SW: 03G 906 016 DT HW: 028 101 189 2

Shop #: WSC 06314 000 00000
1 Fault Found
18080 - Coolant Fan Control 1: Open or Short to Ground
P1672 - 000 - -
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 798 /min
Torque: 34.0 Nm
Speed: 0.0 km/h

Voltage: 13.68 V
Bin. Bits: 00101100
Temperature: 81.9°C
Duty Cycle: 9.6 %
Readiness: 0 0 1 1 1
When the car is restarted the ECON light stays out for about 1minute then comes back on.
Recent work on car: Full Service, IMF replaced (April) and about 13months ago, fan with the module(?) on passenger side. I checked the IMF tonight, its still relatively clean, pipe to it clean, flap fully free and F8 fuse not blown.
Can anyone offer any help!! I appreciate online diagnosis isn't always the best, but if I spend my time on the beach rather than a foreign stealers I would be really grateful!! And the wife would too!!
