I saw an RS3 for the first time last night...

It was red, and had the red and black wheels that you frequently see in magazines and on youtube. My initial thoughts were it looked great, and had a real 'presence' about it.

It's just such a shame they didn't decide to do the RS3 as a 3-door - I reckon a red 3-door RS3 with the red and black wheels would have looked menacing...

Lol! Are you seriously trying to say you wouldn't drive a GT-R, Audi forum or not I'm pretty sure most of us would have on over an RS3 in a heartbeat.

Personally no to the GTR, I appreciate the capabilities of car but it doesn't float my boat at all. The Nissan build quality isn't a patch on most German manufacturers.

BMW yes but model dependant, the M3 is a great car but coming from a CSL it's a hard comparison. At the end of the day it comes down to personal taste but that's my six pence worth.

I wouldn't either .. One of the big draws to Audi for me is that it doesn't look 'Max Powered' up, which the Nissan does and to some extent the M3 as well.
I would feel like I'd have to spend all my time at the Gym and wear tight shirts if I had either one as they appeal to the youngsters but not us more mature ( older) drivers...I want a car that is quick but understated, not quick and shouts about it.

Each to their own though and I appreciate the merits and engineering of those cars and if offered a drive in either I would snap it up for the experience....but ownership....not for me, but as i said each to their own.

I'd take the RS3 - It's subtle so i'd feel less scared parking it in train stations\****ty streets, I love the way my S3 feels inside so would happily have that interior all over again, and the running costs (or so I keep telling myself) would be significantly lower on an RS3 than a GTR.

    Such piffle in this thread!!

The GTR build quality is astounding. The materials and design of the interior is nothing special but the mechanical construction of the car is beauitfully thought out to achieve incredible results. It's the first car where they aerodynamically tested the bracketry in the engine bay to reduce drag.

But, I do get the max power thing. I love my A3, and have done everything possible to make the interior of my lowly 05 sport identical in look and feel to a brand new s3. It's a great place to be and I love it. For all that, an A3 with enormous power does not compare to a GTR in terms of the presence and the occasion of being in one/driving one. It feels special because it is special.

I like them because they are actually the underdog, jeered at by porsche and ferrari owners as being a poor man's supercar. It is to some extent, but with all the money in the world, I'd still take a GTR over any other supercar, because it has a Nissan badge. It doesn't shout look at how rich I am. It shouts, look how much I can without a fancy badge.

    I won't mention the V8 M3. It doesn't even register.

As much as I love the ability of the GTR, and no disrespect intended to you as an owner of one, I think the GTR is just as "shouty" as any other supercar. Sure, it doesn't have the badge, but thanks to the increasing popularity of Top Gear amongst the masses, it is a recognised beast and it's hardly subtle with exhaust pipes that I could fit my head inside!

I don't doubt it would outperform an RS3, and I'd defo have one in my 'dream' garage, but as an every day car (which is all I can afford to run\keep) it's the size and the fact that it won't turn many heads that puts it top of my 'S3 Replacement' list.

Actually no.. as much as I like the GT-R (and would have it as well as but not instead of the RS3).. But seeing as I did have the choice, I chose the Audi, based on many factors.. Everyone likes a different car, and that's what makes forums great, but as has been mentioned - the RS is a good compromise in terms of real world perfomance vs practicality. PLus, having owned many a3/s3/tt etc combinations, I have been waiting for an RS3 for years, and I'm not about to miss my chance to spec one myself..

I saw a blue one the other day,it looks nice and pretty fast. However I think that look only suits 5 doors. For 3 doors car,the bumper may look too wide.....if you known what I meant lol.

    Fair enough comments.

It is a VERY impressive car, especially in a straight line, with a remapped one getting close to stock pre my11 GTR performance - that is really saying something.

There's no denying the GTR turns heads - something I'm not keen on but I don't notice it so much now. What I do notice is that everyone who comments on it smiles, everyone at traffic lights gives you a thumbs up. People let you out at junctions and fight in traffic to drive behind you or next to you. They also do what they can to keep pace with you on a motorway (I drive at 70 religiously!).

That's gives you a nice feeling. You can feel the "supercar" underdog support. (I use the term supercar lightly because it's not a fair description I don't think).

For all the above, without my A3, I wouldn't have a GTR as my 500 mile round trips to York for work would annoy me for the wear they put on it and the cost of the mileage in terms of depreciation. I like to use the GTR for fun only drives, and without the A3 I couldn't do that.

I suppose if I had to therefore amalgamate both into one an RS3 would be a great choice. For me though it would more likely be an RS4 or an RS5 - if only it were a little faster!
