Concert II: Parrot 9200 Bluetooth / Ipod preparation.

I want this kit,Bluetooth® hands free car kits made for iPod and compatible with iPhone - Parrot MKi9200

I can get the kit for £150, £30 fitting but i need an additional lead to convert the Audi radio to make it compatible with the parrot which is another £30, totalling £210.

Now, it's started off at a price of £210 supplied and fitted at Halfords, i don't like Halfords but that's the best price and it's next door to my place of work pretty much in Leeds.

I've just phoned two more firms, Skipton car radio and safe & sound of Leeds. They are now telling me that Halfords are wrong and in order to get FULL use out of the system IE using all speakers i need a better lead which is in the region of £75, is this correct? I am being told now that if i don't get the lead at £75 then the Ipod set-up will only work through the FRONT speakers, i want it work through them all otherwise it will sound gash.

Can anyone shed any light on this or recommend places to try in West Yorkshire, possible Manchester way as that's 40 mile over the hill from me, either for the same system or something similar and just as good. I can't afford to be buying RSNE units etc so that's out of the question.

    Thanks

Don't go to halfords full stop even if it is cheap.

If your car has BOSE then it will need that additional cable that is priced around that amount.

That's the thing, i don't have Bose or at least it doesn't say it on the speaker grills, i am being told it's a half bose amped system, is this correct?

I'm not going to Halfords as they have told me the wrong information going on what other companies have said.

Basically i just want to know exactly what i need to get the job done, but i don't want bumming out of my coin whilst in the process.

There are plenty of people telling me one thing and then i'm told another, like i say the price has gone from £210 fitted to £290 and it's peaked at £325!

Aiden, you dont need the harness for your radio, ignore the Parrot website lol.

You need a harness if you're installing into a Symphony/Concert II+ with. Quadlock, but as your radio has ISOs its a straight Plug&Play.

A 56 plate will have the quadlock. And i work at a london branch of halfords and install these all the time, im the only audio person for the store. In most cases i don't do any audis, the amplified/bose systems make life difficult when it comes to fitting. There are leads available however, and they do cost a lot more than the original wires. I'm assuming they've quoted you for an SOT-976 which won't work.

U defo need a SOT lead, which one depends on whether you have a full of half amplified system. What have you got? I'll find the correct one for u

I have a half amped system, the front speaks come off the radio and the rear come off an amp so I'm told.

If for example you fitted the unit for me (you won't as i'm Leeds, long trip lol) what price am i looking to pay £149.99 for the parrot, £30 for the fitting and £xx for the SOT lead?

Quadlock were brought in from 2007 builds with the Concert/Symphony II+. I have a '56 plate with the II+ but it is a 2007 build.

From our conversation yesterday Aiden you have a Single DIN Concert II, which has the ISOs, which would mean all you need is the Parrot kit and no extra harness.

I'll check into it tomoro while im at work will ring up suppliers to make sure. If its non quadlock im pretty sure u still need an interface for the amp'd section which is a red plug (one of 3) on the back of the stereo for u to get sound.

To go a bit more in depth so u understand y u need the lead; the parrot works inbetween ur stereo and ur speakers, when the parrot is being used for a call or music it cuts off all audio signal from the stereo via the SOT lead and replaces that with its own audio signal. In most cases generally non amplified, all sound passes through the SOT lead, but in the case of the audi with half ampd systems half goes through as normal but the rest goes through another (red) block to the amp then to the speakers, in essence bypassing the parrot. Hence why its said itll only work through the front non ampd speakers if u have no SOT lead.

Now... With the correct lead, the ampd section (red block) of the wiring is re routed to pass through the parrot and then onto the amplifier as normal so all will work as its supposed to.

Question is, do you have a quadblock or an iso connection. Simplest way to find out is to take the stereo out to check. If i were you i'd go through halfords, £30 to have a parrot fitted is cheap. For the time required and work involved ud expect to pay alot more elsewhere. This way you can also get them to check what connection you have on the back to be sure of what ur ordering. But heres the game changer, all halfords stores sub contract a nationwide company called hyde park corner who are a specialist company for mobile fitting. Request the work to be carried out by them instead. It may cost a little more if i remember correctly but its still gonna be cheaper than elsewhere. Also they can meet u at home to install it.

Ill check what lead it is for both quad and iso connections and get back to u with part numbers and prices tomoro

Yeah it is ISO connection. It connects straight onto the unit, but the rear speakers and the bass do not work!!! You need the harness, belive me, I did the sam install last year (half-amped, Concert 2, year 2004). Everything, but the rear speakers, function perfectly (as it should), but it utilises the Parrot amp, which is somewhat weaker. With this harness all speakers work, but there are some constraints which are not mentioned anywhere (but now I am used to live with them).
For instance, if you are listening to radio and you get an incoming call, you have to manually switch to CD changer function, for you to hear the sound of the conversation. If you are listening to your ipod and you get a traffic report, the ipod does not pause when the traffic report is in function. If you are having a phone conversation and you get a traffic report, your headunit automatically switches to the report and you can not hear the person you are speaking to (even more, he can hear the traffic report and you have to manually cancel the traffic report if you wish to continue the conversation).

For more info on the install, see here:

So even with the correct harness it will still do the highlighted above? IE not switch the traffic reports off if i get a call etc?

Seems a bit pointless now, i thought it would ALL be automatic?

Instead of the correct music streaming lead, you kit has been wired into the CD changer port to make use of all the speakers. (Shouldn't really be done this way)...

AidenUK - If you want it done correctly with the half amp'd system I suggest you go to Connects2.com and look for CTTAU001. It should be about £30 - £50. This will mean it will work through all your speakers without having to use the CD changer

Yeah... I was not aware that such cable existed... I connected the CD changer emulator with RCA inputs (the inputs are directly connected on the Parrot). I think is is Connects2 CTVADX001

Anyhow, it seems that cable suggested by Cruiser should perfrom correctly...

Ok called up both connects2 and autoleads:

    Autoleads recommend:

    SOT-1002HB ISO
    £60.25
    SOT-1003HB Quadlock
    £61.27

    Connects2 Recommend:

    CTTAU001 ISO
    CTTAU004 Quadlock

Didn't get a chance to find prices on the connects2 leads but i'd assume they'd be around the same. All the leads are only for the rear amplified system though.

Can u take a pic of ur stereo for me? Will help me figure out what lead it is i think.

It won't help you if I understand correctly. If you have Concert 2, then you can have ISO or QUAD connectors. If you have a newer Concert 2+ (double din), then it is QUAD. Just google it and you will instantly see the difference.

I am told that 56 plate cars are on the change over which sort of makes sense because a lad at work has a 56 plate A3 and that has a Concert II+ and my 56 plate has a Concert II, same year but different units.

I'm getting the Parrot MKI9200 fitted tomorrow.

    UPDATE:

Really disappointed with the way this kit sounds when using the iPod playback.

The bluetooth/mobile works flawlessly but the sound quality of the playback is what can only be described as dog ****. I can only put this down to using the built in Parrot amp, I have bought the correct harness so that the sound comes out of all the speakers but there is and always will be a lack of bass, if you use the iPod and play one song the flick to the CD player and play the same song but from the CD the two do not compare in terms of sound quality!

I am told that if this was to be wired into the concert II CD changer port then this would overcome the terrible amplifier that the parrot has.

I am considering, removing the converter harness to make the sound come out of all of the speakers and just using the ISO for the Bluetooth (this would just use the front speakers) and purchasing the Audi iPod lead to plug into the CD changer port, my question is though, can this be done? As i understand now my CD changer port is not used, does the Audi iPod lead plug into that port and that port only? I want to keep the parrot for Bluetooth purposes but just forget about the iPod playback.

Can I have both units wired into the CD player, the Parrot and the Audi iPod lead?

For the money i have spent here I should of just done the double din conversion and bought a fancy iPod ready radio!

What radio system do you have in your car? Do you have an amplified system?

I have the BOSE system and tried the adapter on both Concert2 and the RNSe and I don't like how it sounds.

Does it not sound the same as when you're playing a CD then? I was expecting it to be very similar?

Who installed the system for u? I installed a parrot into a mazda RX8 last week, full bose system using an SOT-1011 which would of been similar to the lead necessary to make urs work. It sounded immense, never heard a parrot sound so good, purely because everything went through the amplifier first. I think you need to look into how yours has been wired up

No! It does not compare with the CD quality. Mine was installed by the local dealer. Maybe it was not installed properly but I really don't like it.
That's why I think you should check if you like how it works/sounds first.

If you buy the correct lead, you wont have this problem. I have no idea why johnny bravo has his connected via the CD changer port but of all the ones ive done its never been connected that way. The RX8 with the full bose had no connections like this at all, and the SOT lead for the amp'd audis is very similar to the RX8 one aside from the connections.

I know they're a fair way away from you but try caraudiosecurity.com Ring them and ask for their advice on the matter. They're very helpful guys and should be able to get you the correct lead.
