    Tyre matters

Fingers crossed I can get this wrapped up straight away. Popped into my mates garage to enquire about new rubber that I might put on these BBS CH's Im looking at. They have loads of tread left on them with Falken 452's fitted which I thought were a reasonably good tyre that a lot of S3 owners put on there cars as they gave good handling, grip etc etc.

The problem is my mate slated them something chronic.....as in ditch-finders and certainly wouldn't put them on an S3.

So can anyone give me a quick low-down and review of their experiences using these tyres.

    Cheers

What size tyres are you after?
The best 225/40/18s currently are going to be things like the Contis,Goddyear F1 Assys, and maybe Michelin PS2.
If you can go to 235/35/18,then you have the Michelin Pilot Supersport.

had the falkens put on my remapped 170 tdi after all the good reviews and tyre fitters recomendations ,
hated them , spun up everywhere, wet or dry, and found them noisy , next visit to tyre man told him this and he was shocked as everyone "loves" them ,
i didnt expect too much being a mid range tyre

Dude get some Goodrich gprofile tyres. What I have on the 19 bbs. They are like glue mate. Wet, dry, oil, snow, tsunami, tornadoes, sandstorms, floods, ICE age... They are all year round good tyres. I had falkins on the Vxr and they where not that good. Gets some Acceleras heard they where good. <- it's a joke btw peeps.

I've been running FK452s on various cars for over 10 years and imo they are very good for anything under 200bhp. Put more power than that through them and they start to show their weakness and it becomes clear why they are priced in the budget to mid range bracket.
S3s are quattro so may not suffer as much as FWD from loss of traction, but now I've remapped my FWD 2.0T (230-240bhp) when my current FK452s wear out I won't be buying them again to be honest.

    I wouldn't recommend them for an S3.

And I agree with the above.... they are noisy as hell. Especially over older roads/tarmac.

Gonna stick my neck out and say I've been running FK452's on my S3 since my summer wheels came out of the garage (in February) and have no complaints whatsoever - quiet, grippy, seem to be wearing fine and so far have avoided all ditches!

Had these on my STi when I bought it, guy had just put 4 on it.
Safe enough to say I put up with them for 3 months then replaced them with PS2's.
Still running PS2's on my S3, best tyre I've had.
    Much better than SC3's & RE050's!

Vredestein sessantas are awesome, Goodyear Asymmetric 1 and 2 are awesome, not tried the PS2 or 3's nor any Continentals either, they always get good reviews, especially in the recent EVO mag test on the S3.

Speaking of which, how did they get an S3 to test tyres with a 235 width? All the 18's are 225 on S3 so where did they come from?

I do believe they are and x4 new ones were surprisingly fitted to a TTRS which ended the wheel deal I was doing...

The BBS wheels have been fitted with Avon ZZ3's. Done a quick review check of them and they are desent tyres. Will see how I get on with them and if I feel theyre not up to the job then they will be getting changed. The previous owner of the wheels.....ASN member with Stage 2+ S3 thought they were brilliant so I will take his word for it.

I have Michelin PS3's all round on my S3, and I'm really impressed with them - they're much better than the standard Bridgstone's that came on the car.

They're also made of a tougher compound, so they'll last much longer that something like the Goodyear Eagle F1's. The F1's are great, but in my experience, they don't seem to last very long...
