Red LED lights in overhead console?

What are the two LED lights in the overhead console about? They shine down on the gearstick area and light your hand up....... Do they have any other purpose? Other than looking quite cool

No other purpose, just a little extra light in the cabin - been covered many times before so do a search

Part of the ambient lighting package. No purpose other than looking cool

apart from looking good they do serve a purpose to light up the gearstick area at night so you dont have to look so hard around that area

I have found a cheap unit but it's for a car mit sunroof, I can live with the switch being there even though I have no sunroof and to be fair will be able to come up with a solution to replace the switch, will it still work plug and play on my car? I'm not in to paying £90 for the unit from Audi!
