Typical servicing costs A3 3.2 DSG

Id just like to get an idea on the typical servicing costs on an A3 3.2 DSG.
I know its variable, but using an Audi main dealer, is it particullaly expensive?
Had a test drive in one, and liked it a lot, but would only change if some sort of money saving was involved.

What are the associated costs like as well? tyres and MPG, all the boring bits, if anyone has them.

I've no idea what the costs are (company car) but if it is variable I can see no reason for this.
So many manufacturers offer fixed price servicing these days.
For example,my wife's Honda had it's 18K service the other day,at the main dealer.It was a fixed £120.44 (incl VAT).
I honestly thought the days of drading a service bill because you didn't know what it would be were over.

bowfer, think he meant variable as in distance / time to service rather than actual cost which should be fixed at any particular dealer.

Fair do's.
A friend of mine told me an interesting story about John Clark BMW here Japper.
Lassie at his work has an ageing Z3 (worth two balloons and a windmill) that kept cutting out.
She was told it needed a new ECU,which she was told would cost around £500.
So she spoke to her husband (who works offshore) and he told her to put it in and get it MOT'd at the same time.

She went to pick it up...

"that'll be £1700 madam"

It's still ongoing I believe.

She was daft to put it into John Clark when it's an old motor,I grant you,but still.....

Blo*dy hell. I thought they had to get your authorisation before carrying out any work not previously quoted for. If this is the case, John Clark BMW dont have a leg to stand on !

Apparently they're trying to say they didn't actually fit anything that wasn't agreed and the balance is labour.
Around £80 an hour was mentioned I believe.
 
sometimes there's a disclaimer on the pre-service schedule that authorises all extra work. It's ****** out of order and very bad practice. Was a labour charge discussed bowfer. Because i can't see how it took a team of techies, 15 hours (2 whole days) to change a ****** ECU.

That's more time than VW spent stripping my mates old corrado engine down and completely rebuilding it.
 
Further to my previous message,the dealer immediately knocked £200 off the bill as soon as the owners went daft,which is as close to an admission of 'something fishy' as you'll get,in my book.

Hard to feel sorry for the daft owner that puts an S reg car into a main dealer for a service though,especially when there are other independent BMW specialists in the area.
 
i could put a car that age into a main dealer, especially if it's had main dealer FSH all it's life.
I find the independants can sometimes cost the same anyway. I just make sure all off the work is agreed upfront and make sure they phone me if it goes a penny over. I've never had a problem like that.

It is a strange one.
A case of the local dealer assuming all BMW owners are minted I think.

I can't see what they,at £80 an hour (allegedly) have to offer the owner of an S reg car over any other garage at £30 an hour.

Apart from nice boiler suits,free coffee and a wee waiting room.

To me (and I do own a private car as well as my company car) main dealer servicing is for the duration of the warranty only.
After that,go to any decent looking garage or independent specialist.

I agree, that's why i always get a quote for a finished job or service and then compare that to other garages as an overall cost. if there's only 20 or 30 quid in it then i would go with the main dealer, so it looks better in the service schedule. Any jobs that they couldn't quote on due to not knowing how long they might take, then yeh, i wouldn't touch 80 quid an hour with a barge pole, regardless of the cars age. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif
 
Cheers for the link, quite reasonable really, so not a hugely expensive car to run by the look of things.

Did any of you owners find that you got bored of the driving experience over time? I ws blown away by the DSG and quattro system, but do any of you feel the cars almost too capable? leaving you with not enough involvement?
Thats my only concern really, that the novelty of these systems wears off, and you dont feel like the car is as exciting to drive, also, is the nose too heavy to bomb down back roads? would the 2.0l turbo possibly be a better, more fun, and qicker back road car?
 
The 3.2 has only got better for me with time, and coupled with a manual gearbox makes the car hugely entertaining and involving to drive. DSG was a bit too playstation for me, but that's just my opinion.

Like you i had those thoughts and yes the car is front heavy, but that engine is so ****** INSANE for a car that size, and that's what i love about it.
 
I can't comment on quattro but,in my opinion,DSG isn't for the serious thrasher.
You don't have full control,even in manual mode.
It will change up for near the red line even if you're in manual mode,for example.
I find this bad enough in the diesel,so I think it would be doubly annoying in a quick revving petrol.
Give it a go though coz I'm in the minority in not liking DSG.
 
Servicing costs are pretty much irrelevant on the 3.2, what's more important is the fuel cost.

I get around 25 mpg overall average and about 30mpg on longer (motorway) runs. This equates to the best part of £50 every 300ish miles if you use super unleaded.

Ignore the DSG bashers and make your own mind up. I think it's great. Complaints like changing up a gear on the red line I don't understand, would you rather bounce off the rev limiter? D mode is relaxing and manual / S modes are great for a blast.

What,I'm not allowed an opinion about DSG am I ?

Any mention of DSG should be positive only,should it ?

Sorry,but it's utter rubbish not to get both sides of the debate.
 
Whooooh chill out, we know you don't like DSG, I was just saying I do.
