Loud ticking noise

When starting from cold, there is a distinct loud ticking noise from the engine. After a min of so it quieten downs a little, but can still be heard.

Using a screw driver to the ear, I found the item circled in white is the culprit. It's attached to a pipe coming from the vapour recover carbon canister. Is it normal / faulty?

Normal, carbon filter bit ticks on all of them. I thought it was at the back of the engine bay though, might just be on S3s.

My 61 plate ticks like crazy. Been told its normal on that type of engine though.

on a serious note i was really suprised to hear the tfsi engine its sounds like derv on reversing and tickover well the ones i heard at ace did anyway
