Someone decided my car was too nice and needed a new modification!

Is this doable with PDR? Anyone used this service and know how much £ I'm looking at if its doable?

Yeah but the lacquer may have been cracked. I've used chips away for the last 7 years without any problems... and they give you a free no obligation quote... so I would try get a quote from them first. I know it's an edge but I would be tempted to try the old heat gun and air duster trick first.

Lots of videos on the internet on how to use a hair dryer/heat gun to remove a dent. Use the air duster upside down though to get the full benefits.

Shouldn't be quite an easy fix for PDR technician as the access will be extremely easy for them - Access is the biggest ball ache for a PDR Technician. To be honest considering how easy it is to remove the boot trim I'd do it myself (Even though I have been trained in PDR) even if your not trained as long as the paint isn't cracked/chipped you should be able to push it out yourself (Use a heat gun though just to warm up the metal and the paint as it will be difficult with it being so close to the edge contour.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Bearing in mind I am not a trained PDR, what would I 'push' with? I am fairly good with my hands, but would be worried about making it worse!

As you can see the dent on the horizontal edge has caused a bulge on the vertical edge. I assume pushing back out the horizontal edge from inside will have an effect on the vertical edge anyway?

Almost certainly I would say. I noticed you're in the South East, I used a guy a while back for some dents I'd put in my roof when putting a roof-box on :jump:

I am in no way affiliated with him but I can definitely vouch for the quality of his work, he had to remove the roof lining to get to it and you'd never have known afterward.

See my thread here on BMWLand BMW: Recommended: Dentex Paintless Dent Removal Southampton : BMW Garages • BMWLand

He charged me about £100 for that work and I was very happy with the quality (and I'm a picky ******!)

He is mobile only these days I understand, but I woudln't let that bother you, he was a really nice guy into the bargain.

I would've thought that'd come out. I had quite a bad one in my C pillar that a bloke based near luton came out and sorted.

It's amazing what they can do with a bit of rod!

Funnily enough after some googling I emailed this same guy last night for a quote, haven't heard back yet though. The work on your roof looks good though.

Got another quote from 'Dentrix' today of £120.

They'd have to be fairly good to repair across that area tbh, roofs & flat areas are easier, but tbh I'm not entirely sure that will come out as good as you'd like, you can see the dents go across 2 folds as such, the bit below the plate & over the edge towards the top of the bumper, they can make it look better, but I would have it knocked in where it pushes out towards the rear of the car & have some smart repair done, alternatively they would paint from the boot lip downwards.

But, I'd love to see them make that look good via pdr, cause thats skill which I look upto for sure, post back with results if pdr :)

i think they will struggle with that tbh.

i think they'll get 70% of it out (if they even take it on as they'll know thru experience how successfully they can get such dints out, sometimes theyll point blank refuse to try) but it'll still have a ripple.
with it being bang on a swage line (where the panel is intentionally folded/bent when manufactured) when damaged/dinted the metal will stretch.

Mixed reviews then on how easily that will repair! The only people I've heard back from is the one I posted above so far. Still waiting on a reply from some others :( I've posted up a thread in the more general chat area hoping more people will see it and suggest some other specialists I can contact for quotes or than come recommended in the Hampshire/W.Sussex/Kent areas.

Did you not hear back form Dentex TimG? That's a shame as I'd have a fair degree of confidence he'd have a good crack at it, or tell you it can't be done, based on my experience with him...

That is odd, mind you I've not contacted him for about 2 years... he was quite responsive at the time.

I think they would struggle with that if they would even take it on that is as its on the swage line whch is the strongest part of the tailgate. as mentioned above roofs and big panels are much easier as there is no strength.

If they did take the job on for £120 and only get the job 60-80% better would you be happy with that when u could have the lower section of the taigate repaired and painted for that and would be 100% if u go to a reputable company that is.

dont use a smart repairer or chips away etc as the products they use are 1k products (air dry) and are pretty pants and dont last, alot of dealers use these guys as a quick cheap repair just to sell the car.

I guess they would only need to paint a very small area and I guess it would be easy to blend/ not that easy to spot due to all the changes in angles around that area anyway, so it might actually be an option.

I wouldn't get a smart repair anywhere out of choice, but certainly not on anything other than low down on a bumper etc.

Warren from Dentex contacted me today. He said he thought a 90% repair was possible because it's distorted through the edge/curve. £95 was his quote which obviously of the two Iv'e had is slightly better.

Well Tim, I just want to be clear, I don't know Warren other than by using him for my stuff, he isn't my mate, or my brother, or my Mum or anything :sm4: but he told me 100% on my roof dinks etc and he was good to his word.

If you want reassurance that I don't know him personally mention my name and I bet he looks at you like :uhm:

He also did my father in laws Focus which had a massive, triple-rear quarter dent and he said 60%-70%, when I saw it, it was more like 80 - 90%.

For the sake of £95 I would let Warren do it all day long to be honest. And genuinely I've got no stake in it, I just want to see you get sorted out because I know that heart-dropping feeling when you see a blemish like that on your hard earned.

If you dont like the result, don't hunt me down and kill me though dude :sadlike:

i personally would pay a little extra to have it 100% but i am really fussy and couldnt live with any kind of rippling left behind in the body work and as you know its there u would notice it everyday and it would probably do your nut in because i know it would for me.

blending wouldnt be a problem as its quite a localised area and they could laquer the whole bottom section of the tailgate upto the line above the reg plate, we have done this on quite a few a3 tailgates,
the only down side is you may have to replace the lower badges if you have any or you could just leav them off as i did on my a3.

did you ever get this sorted? i have had a quote from dentex (emailed him a picture) now i have removed half the back of the cars inside to get access for them he wont reply to my emails or messages :applaus:
