    I am Sharkutus

Stage 1 Shark map for the S3.......is very very good.

    Very smooth
    Very progressive
Fairly relentless through the Rev range superb when you are `on a hoon` as it it keeps giving as you keep revving.
    Superb Value for money.
DIY process is easy, even for a technopaz such as I.
    All in all, very pleased!

So thanks to SHARK HQ and N8 for answering some of my doofus questions and just a general, slick, professional service.
Thanks also to Graeme at GNJ for his input and helping me make a decision.

Thanks to God for making all this possible, and baby Jesus, and boobs etc...

    cheers

Glad to help you make the decision Paul. I knew you would be happy. I had mine out last night after midnight on the empty roads with the 4 degrees cold dense air. It was unbelievable as I'm sure you can imagine knowing how fast stage 1 is. Shark FTW

I'm intrigued, its progressive yet smooth, and yet also very fast. But some say they've asked for a bit more boost engineered into the map, so is it that fast (as in faster than anything else)?

I've had MTM and Revo, and the two had quite a different power delivery curves but not that much difference is outright power.

I appreciate you've had a couple of maps on the S3 Graham, so what would you say makes the Shark map work so much better with the S3?

It is difficult to put your finger on it really but I'll try. The REVO stage 2 seemed to go mad low down the revs then run out of steam as quickly as it got going. Now I know comparing stage 2 REVO to stage 3 Shark is not really fair and I don't want to and won't sit here and say the REVO map was rubbish for business gains with us being a Shark dealer.

I just feel that the power delivery is better with the Shark, lower down the rev range it still gives you that shove in the back that the REVO does but then as the revs rise it seems to pull harder and stronger right to the redline. I guess the best way for you to ever find out what we are all on about would be to have a go in a Shark tuned car

To be clear, I would be more than happy to have REVO or SHARK software, both very good, both different in delivery.

    One overpriced......

Think the hard part for companies like Revo is overheads as they've grown quite a bit over the years (scale, premises and multiple heads costs money!). Having spoken to Kev they firmly believe the cost of the software reflects the amount of time and effort invested. There is always that risk if they get involved in a price war it devalues the product, and they firmly believe (like MTM to some extent) is about right for what buyers of a £30k car would expect to pay without ever questioning if what they were buying was short in some way or form.

I want something that gives me that sense of fun everytime I flick the key, and to date nothing has come close, but I'm always pleased when there are great quality alternatives because it stirs the competition, innovation and means we all get to banter a bit about which is best!!!!

Fair point, I just think that Stage 1 for the TFSI has been around for years, its not new, and many other tuners have a Stage 1 product. I would have expected it to have been discounted by now, like the 18T Stage map has.

If Stage 1 + a basic switch for dealer visits was available for under £600 then to me that would be paletable and a sensible price point, especially if you have experience of the product and know how good it is.

£780 is just too rich IMHO, in fact it feels like a bit of a liberty.

    cheers
    Paul

Yes. I did this when I started up and now Graeme is doing the same. After this we will both offer a 10% forum discount. I am based down south and travel about in Kent and Surrey.

Warren Dont worry about Paul, he's pulling a load of spare doors and a heavy glass roof about in that old estate he has REEEEEEEVVVOOOOOOOOOO

That said the idea that anyone paying £30k for a car expects to pay £700 ( your post above) for a map and switch is daft, especially as they keep discounting the set up to under £500. I would also imagine most of their customers bought second hand and paid no where near £30k and to some one paying £17k for a 3 year old S3 , £700 is a lot of money when shark can do the same thing a lot cheaper. You do have to wonder about the thinking of some of these companies.
Personally i would never buy REVO again on principle that having handed over £707 for map and switch i then had to pay £2.50 for a REVO sticker that ultimately just advertises their company and the switch had its USB cable missing.
Ibis white Revo S3 and now matching Vivaro LWB HR 2900 :-)

I think it depends on what your priorities are, I fully take your point, it's not cheap, but then neither is an Audi. We could all have bought VW's, SEAT's or Skoda's, but we didn't and although a vast majority of the parts under the skin are generic we were prepared to go the extra mile and pay up. They still get plenty of sales but it tends to be with people are doing big power mods than basic stage 1.

Can't argue with that at all, it's a bloody cheek to have to pay for a sticker, and I wouldn't pay for one out of principal! The cable is a bad oversight, and your dealer should have had an ear bending!

I need something cleared up over here and I hope someone chimes in. I am not privy to any specific information and certainly not trying to stir the pot but...the word on the street (heard specifically from a REVO competitor) is some engineers worked at APR and then left with all the software programs designed at APR and started REVO. Is this B.S.? as I am tired of hearing APR fanboys bash REVO. APR is entering into your neck of the woods and I can just hear the rumors being started across the pond already

Funny you're saying that as I heard this for the first time only last week from a reputable tuner.. You know how rumours are though, anyone loves to jump on the band-wagen.

Do you know I have no idea, but given that APR are just about to undertake a bit of an offensive on the UK market I'm sure they'd love us all to believe it. I hear they've gunning for Revo business.

To be honest, like F1, it's an incestuous industry and people shift around the same roles. If its true I'd rather they'd come from APR than Tesco's!

Revo seem to take a bashing as they rode a wave of success, but since people have got cost conscious that may end and their focus may need to shift.

I heard the APR/ REVO rumour ages ago as well but TBH its more than just a map. its about backup and support as well. The map is going to be pretty generic be it shark, revo or apr. With a SPS switch you could probably fine tune a Revo to behave like any of them anyway.

i can understand where your coming from Warren and yes we do by Audis which are Golfs and pay through the nose but do revo charge less to map a golf than a A3 ? when times are hard you can stick out at trying to be better by keeping the price and image high but your analogy with Tesco ? Tesco are the cheapest, have the highest proportion of the market and the biggest profit :-)
Ibis white Revo S3 and now matching Vivaro LWB HR 2900 :-)

Agreed, but Revo is as much about doing what they enjoy (as they're enthusiasts). They want to make good profit, but if you want to get involved in the corporate tuning market and court the likes of VAG (they had an agreement with SEAT in Greece for a while), you aren't going to do that out of a franchise warehouse or back alley garage. To stand alongside / win the confidence of car companies (like MTM have in Germany), you have to be a scaled organisation and that's where the cost comes in. If they have aspirations of becoming a tuning partner for a car supplier which in time I'd suspect they'd want to, they don't need to be taking the 'every little helps' approach, it's about uncompromising quality.

If they reduced their prices something would have to give, and that would be investment time in development which they genuinely believe gives their products the edge and ensures a high proportion of high tune customers returning to them.

Agree, but volume of business is important too of course.
High margins and low volume wont help then grow.

IMO Stage 1 should be competetively priced and generate the volume sales, with the Stage 2/3 etc.. carrying more of a premium and targeted at the more discerning enthusiast that are likely to have deeper pockets anyway.

I wouldn`t suggest REVO slash 50% off their Stage 1 product and I think they should be able to charge a bit of a premium for being sector leader, but this strategy has lost me as 3 times previous REVO customer.

Whether I am `typical` or not is another debate but I wont be tipping up circa £750 for a Stage 1 map.

Maybe REVO have done the same as my Mrs and pretended the Recession hasn`t/isn`t happening.

From my experience REVO have an exccellent product, I was just frustrated by the cost and lack of consistency in the information I was receiving from their dealers.

I really wanted to give REVO my money but the competition seemed to want the business more, charged less, and delivered a great service.

    cheers
    Paul
