    ZF short to ground error

have retro-fitted rnse and bluetooth to my 2007 s3, all fitted and coded by myself.
all working fine for the last year apart from the two errors that show up on a scan under radio and navigation for the ZF short to ground error.
the error never caused any probs apart from a slight weakness in signal.

so somebody bumped into my car and cracked a front light, insurance puts to bodyshop to fit light and it has to go to audi to get distance range coded, but they say they cannot code headlight while the car has the above error and say it is because the rnse isnt coded corectly

they offer to code it correctly for £80 per hour and its a 2/3hour job??

although im almost 100% sure in saying that it is NOT a coding issue and its a hardware issue with the wrong radio amplifier in the bootlid causing the error
audi should be able to code a headlight and ignore the error, surely?

You are correct. ZF short to ground is standard fault with RNSE retro-fit and can (and usually is) ignored.

Not sure about the headlight bit but it sounds b*ll*cks to me ! Nothing takes 2/3 hours to code ! It maybe that Audi have rules that state certain things can't be done if any fault codes are showing ?

Take it to a VAG independent who will sort it for you.

Talking ******** as usual. The ZF short to ground error is because of lack of / malfunctioning antenna in boot hatch, and unrelated.

They won't be able to code it out so it will be a fruitless exercise which they'll charge you for anyway.

It might be worth speaking to one of our specialists on here to see if they can sort it.

That code (851 by any chance?) in my experience is a hardware or wiring issue and not a coding issue.

The trouble with the dealership and the VAS system is they will ususally only code to the original spec of the car, To code with anything else (assuming they would do it or could be bothered) is a real issue.
I cant see the issue with the ariel being a problem in itself, but its not impossible (this is NOT fact, just a thought) that the VAS system wont allow them to code any units when there are faults present. I know the system is not very flexible or tolerant of any changes.

Is it possible they are talking of 3 hours to fix the fault before they can code it (which is quite a quick job)?

I have coded and retro fitted a lot of systems the dealer says is not possible, find a GOOD Independent and get them to do the coding.

Ok yes zf is as above, the radio antenna system isnt designed for an rns-e & would require hardware to resolve, as for headlight issue, even vas has nothing to do with this, you go into module directly with vas or vcds & code the unit as per required, so yes for me its rubbish, 2-3 hours seems excessive, but until someone see the car, we cant actually say its not neccessary, but on face value, it seems wrong.

Whereabouts are you as I can sort this for you, I also do the antenna fix system aswell

thanks nhn im in aberdeen andi have vcds so could have coded the headlight myself, but didnt want to get involved as its an insurance job.
{you could pm me a price for the supply of the correct aerial amp and 09 rear lights though
i didnt even know it was at audi until they phoned to say they couldnt code the headlight with out "correctly" coding the rnse for a cost.
i asked to speak to the master tech to explain what was the problem but he wouldnt.
i will have to fit orginal unit for them to code but they still offered to fit and correctly code rnse if i pay the cost
there was no mention of the faults being hardware , just coding .

ring back and ask to speak to the workshop manager about your car. or find out what dealer its at, go online and find out his name and ask to speak to him directly. explain to him what youve done.
from my experience the people that face the customers know exactly what bull**** to say, workshop managers are more forth coming.

from my experience of the vas system, its long winded, doesnt allow for the intelegence (or lack of) the person using it. pretty idiot proof.
but you can code things independantly of each other.

just today actually, i fitted a new steering angle sensor in a 06 plate mk5 golf, fault codes in everything to do with abs, power steering, steering column ecu.
i was using the bosch kts (to code it in and do basic settings) insted of the vas 5052. my boss came up and said why are you using that, go and get the vas!
i said ********, id be here with the vas for half an hour p1ssing about in guide functions reading pointless screens informing me i need to adjust the washer jets and do the 4 wheel alignment when that isnt the problem!
insted i did what i needed to do with the kts using my brain in 5 minutes!
    all worked fine, fixed!

Presumably now you have a verbal, if not written, warning that you have compromised the profitabilty of the company by getting the job done quickly and efficiently prohibiting the company from making an exhorbitant profit ?? lol

    Well done mate !!
