will 245 40 18s fit the car, and on OEM audi alloys

    Hi all,

    Please see title really.

I have the OEM split 7 spokes as my winter wheels, and I'm looking at buying the flat 5 spoke S3 wheels for my summer tyres, but I really want michelin pilot supersports.

Only trouble is they don't come in 225 40 18s.

    They do come in 245 40 18s and possibly 225 45 18s.

The car is a quattro, which is sitting on H&R 35mm lowering springs.

    Any thoughts?

Ask yourself are you really going to notice buying different brand of tyres? There gotta be a rival that's almost as good that fits!?

They are pilot super sports, not pilot sports, and yes I think I would notice.

    Thanks for the info though!

245/40/18 will fit on oem wheels, i had them on my et46 wheels and they rubbed at the back a tiny bit, but the oem offset of et52/54 will be fine.

The OEM wheels are not really wide enough for a 245 tyre, you'll get some overhang which will negate the performance advantage you're after. I was surprised the OE 18" alloy is just 7.5J, seems quite narrow for an 18! (S3 is still 7.5J?).

A 245 is "officially" too wide for a 7.5J rim too (normally permissable rim widths are from 8 to 9.5J). A 225 will sit much nicer and squarer.

If you're really set on those tyres the best fit is the 225/45/18 but it will look tall. I bet they'll be the best part of £1000 for 4 though.

Perhaps look at Toyo R1R/Federal RSR/Hankook RS2 etc if you want a sticky road tyre? probably a huge amount cheaper too!
