marks on paintwork!!

Hi guys,
been lurking here a while, I collected my new ebony black A3 Ambition 1.6FSI last week and am delighted with it.
However, I was out of the country for a few days this week and left the new car outside the house while I was gone.
When I returned, I noticed the car had lots of pink flowers stuck to it (came off a cherry blossom tree), so I thought no probs, I'll give it a quick wash and it'll be fine.
But.... as I chamois'd it off, I noticed quite a few thumbprint sized marks on the roof and bonnet, obviously left by the flowers. I tried waxing/polishing/buffing them out, but there's no shifting them! Its like they've left permanent marks on the paint!

Now I must admit they are not totally obvious, and the polishing helped to a certain degree, but they are still somewhat visible.

Is there anything else I can do....??!

Not really. Ny girlfriend used to park her car under one of our cherry trees and when it rained the water drops from the cherries eventually "burned" into the paint work on the bonnet. She had the bonnet redone and looked like new. Forget how much it cost.

try having tens of thousands of hot metal fragment burnt in to your lacquer from an angle grinder!!

I'm having to sue to get my money for repairs!.

Your cherry tree blossom won't have affected the paintwork, just the lacquer. A machine polish will remove it or for a small patch try a small amount of ctutting in polish. Then buff with a high gloss wax.
 
Thanks for the feedback guys, LeMan, I read about your misfortunes in your previous posts - sounds like you have a much more serious problem. Hope you get it sorted.

Yeah, I reckon its the laquer thats slightly damaged alright. Surely a few cherry blossom flowers could not do that much damage to a modern paint finish??!!
The polishing I did do already certainly helped a bit, maybe I just need to do some more...

Yep, I had a similar problem on the roof of my TT with bird sh*t. Audi machined polished the complete roof and it was like new again.

My freindly local Audi dealer did it me for free. But I think normally it would be about a hours labour. The TT only has a small roof. I had a flaking alloy being replaced under warranty so it was going into the dealer anyway, and they kindly did it under 'customer service'
 
Bird poo is the worst by far, if you don't wipe it off before it sets! But parking under a tree (of any type) esp in the rain is a complete no no... I had problems with my old car with like water marks in (or on) the paint which couldn't be removed.

NEVER EVER PARK UNDER A TREE!! Cos if it's not raining from the clouds it'll be raining from a birds ***!!

I've got some sap on my bonnet and an old bird poo etching. I'll be lifting the sap with some bug/tar remover and/or a claybar and dealing with the sap etching and bird poo etching with ScratchX. Just gotta order them first. Have a load of other Meguairs products but none of the 3 products I need atm. I was gonna order these eventually anyway but now the sap has reminded me to order them sooner rather than latter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
 
i left bird poo on my car for 2 weeks or more. it was exams period so wasn't thinking bout washing my car!
a lot of buffing, cutting, polishing and a machine polish (which by the way made the rest of the car shine like new) just could not shift it.
still there, just under the drivers rear door.
if it was on passengers side wouldn't mind, but i see it all the time!
always wash bird poo off very quickly now!
 
Just to update, I tried Meguairs ScratchX over the weekend, and that seems to have helped a lot. Many of the marks are now virtually invisible, a couple of others are still there - but still only really visible if you are looking for them in direct sunlight!

So I had satisfied myself that I was happy I'd solved that problem, when I went on a shopping trip to town, looked for a safe parking spot, and idiot that I am managed to slightly scuff my front bumper off a steel barrier sticking out of a wall.. grrrrrrr...

It left a slight scuff mark about an inch long on the bumper and a slight indentation. I got a quote to fix it (involving spraying the bumper), but I've heard of guys who specialise in fixing minor dents/scratches - Dentmaster?? Are these to be recommended?
