    Whats my car worth??

i currently looking to sell my s3 as im going to be doing quite a bit of mileage so looking for something a bit more economical and tbh the car didnt really live up to my expectations..

anyways i was wondering if i could get some advice on how much i should sell for as iv been looking at the prices of similar cars and theyre a bit all over the place

    my car:
    56 (07) s3 in black
    completly unmodified
mileage just under 35k with full audi history and last service at around 27k
    full black leather seats
    sat nav
    heated seats
    heated mirrors
    cd changer
    bose sound system
    xenons

    2 previous owners
    6-7 months m.o.t
    1 months tax

    no flat bottom though

wheels are completly unmarked and wrapped in dunlop & pirelli and paint condition is clean except for some bonnet chips

can post some pics on the weekend

I'm currently selling my Dec 07 57 plate Ibis white S3 with 33k miles, almost identical spec, more tax and more MOT and FMDSH with new Sachs clutch, H&R spirngs and Revo stage 1 software for £15,995 and the best offer I have had is 15k.

I'll add to this, they dont seem to be moving at the minute, mine was up at 19k which is the cheapest 09 plate around, up for sale for 3 months with a good option list and very low mileage, was getting offers of 17-18k which is below bottom book trade price!

I'd have lost a fortune if i were in a rush to sell, hold out if you can, price it in respect of whats already for sale... prices dont really budge between Nov and Feb as car sales notoriously drop

Theres an old saying, something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
When I sold my Focus ST, I lost quite alot on it. But if I had kept it any longer, the bottom fell out of the value of them and I would have got alot less than I did.
Crunchie is right, sales will pick up in a few months, thats when Im shopping for an S3

Something is only worth what someone will pay, but selling a car on that basis will do you no favours at all.... although the ST does depreciate differently to the S3 due to volume, brand and terrible ageing.

Can i ask a question, if sales pick up in a few months, why are you waiting until then to buy when there will be essentially 'more buyers'

im just going to put it up and see how it goes, the only reason i want to sell now is so i dont have to invest more money which i know i wont get back, tax is due next month and service in a few thousand miles...

iv just sold my 2008 a4 and lost money on that so aware how dry the market is at the moment, so just going to have to wait out for the right buyer

I also didnt understand that at all, if S3's are cheaper now, then cant see logic buying when more expensive.

Anyway, stick it in the classifieds

Must be one of these professional buyers

Mkz1 - It's all about if you can wait mate, mines lost a few hundred from the best price for my spec/year since i advertised in November, I'm buying a cheaper yet bigger car so im happy waiting, whilst mine is depreciating, so is the big A6 lump Im going to buy - I could have let it go for a grand less than i am currently advertising in Nov but didnt, meaning i've essentially had another 3 months of cheap motoring in my S3 ))

The bottom has dropped out of the market at the moment. Just "gave away" my wifes 08 Corsa, wanted £3800, got £2850, absolute waste of time, still better its gone than just sitting in the drive.

If you want to sell a car, say because you cant afford the running costs anymore, then is losing out on £1k profit on a £16k car really going to make a massive difference? I think not.

Chances are you will probably get a good deal on the potential new car aswell, the whole car market is feeling the pinch and realistic sellers are accepting that there is going to be some bartering, as proved in these posts.

If I decide to buy an S3, I will be buying in a few months because Im in the military and currently deploy alot, in March I start a more stable post.

So why not buy the S3 now as you intend to keep for a while, so sitting around for 2 months could mean 1-2k in your pocket

If you factor in 1k of running costs, versus depreciation on the car you want and the car your selling amongst other factors, then you will find you could run your car for quite a few months before you 'spunk' 1k away.... no offence mate but you have a very clouded view of the market if you think its as simple as that - lets face it, most on here can afford their cars, otherwise they wouldnt have bought them in the first place, therefore if you MUST lose that 1k, then as a buyer (you) I'd be questioning how well the car has been kept as the owner is far less likely to have adhered so a 'money no object' service/upkeep plan.

There has always been bartering in car sales, no more now than any other time in my opinion. That's why dealers are largely still surviving..their costs haven't reduced and they aren't going to sell at a loss, therefore cars must be moving.

Good look when you decide to buy

I cant buy now as I dont have the time to go to dealerships and look around at cars, Im working at different bases and living at different locations on a weekly basis at the minute.

1animal1, I dont have a clouded view, I just get on with things instead of mulling them over or thinking about it for months on end. When I decided to sell my ST and get an A3, the whole process was done within a week.

Out of interest, why the requirement of new clutch when the mileage is only 33k miles. Is that because of the extra torque the remap brings?

Like I said fella, best of luck with your purchase.... my search took 2 months and i still didnt end up with the spec i wanted, just the right deal which made me happier knowing what i had for the money. None of this is prescribed, a lot is luck, some is timing etc - take that from an ex car dealer
