    URGENT help needed

    Hi Guys,

    I need some help

I was trying to work out why my rear washers weren't working yesterday. I took of the boot cover and removed the pipe and then checked to see if water was reaching there. So I pressed the stalk for a while and no water reached the pipe. However I found an area which was wet after, The picture is in the this thread.

    Rear Washer Pipes

I didn't know how to take the part off so left it for the time being, I did not bother to put the boot cover back on. and then not used the car since yesterday.

My neighbor gave me a call an hour ago telling me that my car alarm keeps going off. So I went to check and noticed my boot light was still on. Also when I put the key in I get the error that the boot is open. Although it definitely isn't, i have opened the boot and checked all connections on the boot everything seems plugged in.

The alarm is going off as I type ;(

    What can I do???

It could be a short somewhere.

Have you got VCDS, if so do a scan and see what it throws up!

Might be worth draining your resiv, just in case you have a leak direct from a pipe somewhere.

    Nope no VCDS.

I will drain now to see if it help.

Will the battery die with the alarm consistently going off and the boot light on. Boot light stay on even when car has been locked

Battery will eventually die if light/alarm remain on.

Disconnect the boot light from the loom for a start.

If there is water in the connector blocks it might be causing a short. Only option may be to disconnect battery for now.

Microswitch in the boot lock has got wet. Fire WD 40 into the locking mechanism and flick the lock backwards and forwards to see if it works. Otherwise you will have to replace the switch.

How do I disconnect the boot light??

The picture in this thread shows where it was wet yesterday after testing the pipes

    Rear Washer Pipes

Do you know which route the pipes take from the washer tank to the rear motor?

My sportback has a pipe joint behind that panel which burst in the frosty weather last winter. It also pours water into the central convenience module ! You have to remove the panels in the boot to get at it and I have to say it's a right pain !! Took me ages to get at it. The pipe connector in there popped apart when the fluid froze. The other cause is a blocked jet which causes pressure backup and it pops apart.

Get a flat blade screwdriver. Put it into the closest edge of the blade of the screwdriver between the carpet and the bulb unit and price it out.

There is a black connector with prongs that needs to be disconnected from the main light unit. Just pull them apart.

The microswitch is inside the lock mechanism. It is complicated to take it apart so don't attempt it unless you are good with that sort of thing.

Is there any evidence of water leaking from the motor itself? Usually it escapes from inside the motor and drips down onto the lock directly beneath.

If the DIS says the boot is open when you don't think it is then either the microswitch is faulty and not completing the circuit or the central convenience module directly under the pipe joint where the wet is has been damaged.

One other thing could be the actual lamp in the boot light. If you have replaced this with an led or different type of bulb then this might be throwing up the fault. I fixed all the things I have mentioned and still had problems but when I put the original boot light back (tried a brighter one but it was 3 watt instead of 5 watt although I didn't know that) then the problem was sorted.

Nope I have not messed about with the boot light.

This time when I went to check the car the light wasn't on and also the alarm hasn't gone off for short while. I have removed the light just in case. Although the DIS says the boot is still open. I don't have any WD40 will have to get some tomorrow.

Also no there was no water in the motor it was dry and so was the pipe connecting to it
