    The Vibration on Acceleration Problem, DSG 2.0 TDI, Advice Needed.

    Hi all,

    I have done lots of searches and read lots of advice from you guys, basically i just bought a 2005 2.0 TDI DSG (69K), the car vibrates badly when accelerating at 55,60 mph +, but when i let go off the accelerator, the car is fine, no vibration!

    The car is at a VW/Audi specialist, i know the guy well, looked after my MK4 golf for 6 years,

    I had the wheels balanced, cv joints checked and axels, no major issues, he is saying it may be the Flywheel, now after reading on here it seems to be in this direction, just wondering if this sounds correct?

    I think that if it was the flywheel, any vibrations would be at engine revs, not road speed?

    Did it have the DSG oil and filter done at 40000? If not, that would be my first step.

    Hi, Im not to sure if it has been done, it is on my list to do next, the car just vibrates/shakes under acceleration, bot to bad at slow speeds, but gets worse at 60 onwards, so thats why they are going to look at the flywheel.

    Would a DSG service really cure this problem, as the gear change is smooth and the engine pulls nicely.

    No, front wheel drive, i have asked them to check everything, apparently they can hear a rattle/noise from the flywheel.

    Its just strange as when i let go of the accelerator at 70 mph, the vibration stops, does this should like a flywheel issue?

    Could be flywheel, does it feel like a gust of wind hits you when stationary some times?

    I've recently had a similar sounding issue. Mine vibrated under acceleration in 5th and 6th gear, between 1400 rpm and 2k. I put a few things that I read on here together, and there was mention of the tandem pump. The tandem pump is a dual fuel and vacuum pump. The way to check this is to take out the fuel temp sensor, and fuel filter, if there is oil in these, then it is a good indication that the tandem pump is warn and leaking oil into the fuel.

    You have to change the pump, which is fairly easy, and the fuel filter. You may need to change the injector seals as the oil degrades them. I've done the pump on mine and the fuel filter, but I'm waiting to use up the fuel in the tank before I do the seals as there is still oil in the fuel.

    It runs smoother already, and smokes less. Mine is a 140 bhp and non-quattro.

    I have the exact same symptoms as you mate - except mine started immediately after fitting some spacers at the front. Had the wheels balanced and the spacers checked but its still there.

    Everyone blamed either the balancing or the spacers, but the vibrations do not happen when my foot is off the accelerator, only when accelerating, and only when accelerating from 60mph upwards too.

    I'll be watching this thread very closely...

    Thanks for the responses guys, just an update, ive had the Flywheel out and there was some slight play, but not major, so im guessing i may not have found the problem! A new one is being out in tomorrow, so after the test drive i will find out. Knowing my recent luck the vibration will still be there.

    Elgy - Ok, well if i still have the fault, ill point this out to my mechanic, im just hoping if the Flywheel is not the fault, then i hope its not the Gearbox or Engine!

    Ill let you know tomorrow guys!

    The tandem pump isnt cheap either! 300 quid for just the pump! I was surprised it was so much.

    Well guys, the new flywheel has been fitted, the car was taken for a test drive by the mechanic and i was told there is no major vibration, however, there is still something there now and again, the guy said it sounds like a little knocking noise or like the sound when a cd is skipping.

    I am going to pick the car up tomorrow and will then see how it goes, he did say the joints near on the nsf have been filled with grease? but he will mention more about this to me tomorrow.

    Not to sure what else to look for now?!

    Well guys, the Flywheel change has definitely improved the car by about 80%, so im happy, however, there still is some vibration/wobble through the car.

    The car still has vibration, but not really through the Steering Wheel or Pedals, i can feel it through the seat, does anybody know what this is?

    Also, the car seems to make like a clicking noise when turning right on a bend now and again, its strange, will changing the CV Joints Inner and Outer make any changes, i know the NSF has been filled with grease as its all over it by a previous owner.

    Help is much appreciated.

    Waz....glad the flywheel has been changed, so one less thing to worry about. A clicking sound from the front transmission when turning is almost certainly due to a worn CV joint(s). Stuffing a badly worn CV joint with grease may disguise this noise for a time, and it is suspicious that it has been done only on the NSF. Best get these joints examined and if necessary replaced. With luck, that will fix the problem for good. Good luck.

    Thanks Geraldy, yes well im hoping its the CV Joints, ill have them look at the bearings, axles/bushes etc too.

    Would just like to get rid of most of the vibration, i know with S Line suspension and 18" Audi Alloys, the ride is not going to be 100% smooth!

    Also need to get a DSG service, have been quoted £220 by Audi.

    Also, CV Joint and CV Boot, is one Inner & one Outer?

    Does anybody know the cost of them OEM, is it fine to use Non OEM as id imagine it would be cheaper.

    Hi, I own same model car (2006, BKD 140HP 2.0 TDI, DSG). It has now 185.000 km and vibration was present ever since I bought this car with 95.000km 4yrs ago.

    I spent a lot of monney on this crappy PD TDI so far, but I like the car itself and DSG (except the machine).

    But after today it finally works smooth and totaly without vibration as never before!

    I replaced DMF (flywheel) 2 months ago (costed me 500€) and it was better (as someone said before) but some vibrations and strange clicking was still present.

    I recently had some problems with aircondition as well and took it to the garage again because of AC problem. This garage is also specialist for turbo repairs and since I had a lot of problems with turbo too I decied to get turbo renewed as well.

    So they renewed turbo and replaced intercooler pipes, oil, some bearings, belts etc. They did also DSG reset procedure because DMF was replaced.

    Car is now smooth as never before. Also no more 'turbo hole', 'police car siren noise', accelerates smoothly through whole RPM range etc. It costed another 600€ but car is really perfect now. I couldn't believe that vibrations were because of bad turbo, but obviosuly it helped a lot. I wish I did it 4 yrs ago...
