A3 TDI Sport 140 - quick question about oil ...

You need the special longlife oil.
You can get it from high street garages, although they don't all stock it.

That's great - cheers.

It's had the long life service at 18k - and I've done 24k now. No warnings from the car - but I checked the oil level this morning and it's fairly low (and very black).

What's the general consensus here? Do people top up every x000 miles?

So that's roughly 6000 miles to a litre ?
That sounds normal.

Oil should be black, unless it's brand new.
If it's black,it's doing it's job.

That's great - thanks for your help.

What's the drill - do I just keep it topping it up till it becomes level?

Try and keep it halfway between levels. Worse thing you can do is to overfill.

BTW is it just me or does anyone else have trouble reading the new type of dipsticks you get in the A3 8P?

I'm never sure about the oil level!

Yep, i've mentioned before this is an absolute pain. Why cant Audi colour the centre section a light colour ?.

Has to be the worse dipstick ever.

A dipstick of a dipstick!

Also, seem to get a dry spot on mine no matter how many times I wipe & try again (Fnnnarrr) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue_out.gif

I think this would be a good aftermarket upgrade then?

Anyone for a forge dipstick?

My car came with computer set to Normal Service at 15000 km's, but according to my dealer when the car comes as new always uses long life oil meaning that the computer can be setup to use normal or longlife service. Do you confirm?
