Need to charge the OEM Varta battery in my 2005 2.0 TDI.

Does anyone know if this is a sealed or wet battery?

Only code I can see on top is VAO, and according to the Varta website that doesn't exist. No indication as to what the type is either.. black dynamic, blue dynamic etc. Its a 72Ah wilth part number 1JO 915 105 AF.

Don't see any valves on top but there is what could be a cover on top. Don't want to try and force it off if it's not meant to come off!

It's a wet lead-acid battery that does not require topping up and consequently cannot be opened.

It is not like the sealed lead-acid battery that is used for golf carts, mobility scooters etc.

Bang it on charge using a normal car battery charger and if it will not hold the charge then it needs to be replaced.

Thanks Fossie.

It's gone from driving across the county twice a day to just sitting in the driveway.

Hopefully it just needs a top-up.
