Following on from a disscussion the other day at work, what are your opinions on petrol choice?

Some people state that Supermarket fuel is cheap for a reason and is rubbish for a tuned engine such as my 1.8tfsi..... other say that top brands such as Shell and BP premium high octane fuel is the best for our engines!

The question is I suppose, Is it worth paying extra for good quality fuel to look after the engine and maybe gain better mpg, OR pay for cheap fuel in this financial climate and expect a lower mpg range!

Your opinions would be appreciated folks.....................

If you have a petrol avoid supermarkets unless it's tesco who do the momentum99 which is very good stuff, I posted this on another thread

Petrol using premium fuel (tesco 99) does make it run better

Diesel using premium fuel can't see a difference

From the research I did a while ago, all the fuel comes from the same refinery except for premium fuel like ultimate

the brands like esso and shell (fuel save) will put additives into the tanker on regular fuel on collection

Where as someone like asda will not. That's my 2 pence.
