How long is a piece of string? it depends entirely on how hard its used to how long it lasts.
Lets put it like this, I've never had to put a new clutch in any car I've ever had in 20 years of driving and I'm not renowned for driving like Miss Daisy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Lucky or not? who knows. Pricing? I wouldn't expect much change from £400 on an A3 if dealer fitted.
My A4 clutch was on the way out at 35000 miles.
It was never the same after an 'incident' when nearly new.
Basically,I cocked up and tried to pull away from very low speed in fourth.
Now normally a car would stall if you tried that but the huge low down torque of the tdi just over-powered the clutch and it let go big time !
It was never the same after that.
Felt spongey and got a bit hot and bothered in traffic.
The dealer couldn't find anything wrong though.
I reckon another 5000 miles would have seen it being replaced.
I feel sorry for whomever buys it off the leasing company.
I had a mkII Gti that was still on its origianl clutch after 110K miles then it started to eat them at an alarming rate - I was able to change a clutch in next to no time after the third one...
Ah the joys of running a tall block 2 litre lump I suppose...
Oh I learned my lesson and bought an uprated clutch after that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
