Basically, I think the turbo is on its way out
It started the police siren bearing noise, still pulled like a train tho, had it remapped and it's increased the noise abit, still pulling and boosting all the way through, but I have abit of oil leaking from around it now
So really, is it going to die?
If i remove the remap will it live on? Or die anyways,
I'm prepared to replace it but I'd like to prolong it if I remove the remap will it help?
The cars done 96k mostly m/way miles with full Audi service hist
Thanks

thats not a good sign matey , i would have thought it will go if you take the map off or not , with the map tho it will only increase the pressure on it

That's what I thought Fran, I havnt had it go into limp mode yet ( touchwood) and I've been powering to test it, I'm just getting a police siren noise from ticking over up to just when the turbo starts boosting

thats never good mate , i would it to a garage so they can have a look at it the might be able to advise you better on it

Hi Jord

Mine did exactly the same! in fact it was removed today, the inlet side is fine, tiny bit of end float, no shaft or bearing wear! Tomorrow i get the verdict on the exhaust side.. Who mapped your car fella? And is it worse when stationary, almost like being sat in the dentists chair with the drill going?

Im having the turbo cleaned and new bearings put in regardless, so my map will be staying on

O yeah,
Hopefully not a new turbo then
Yeah it seems to be worse when stationary or moving very slowly
Awesome remapped it two weeks ago
Hopefully it's something not that exspensive, have you got any contacts to have a look at bearings and that to test it?

My mate is an ex Audi master tech, just works for himself these days, He tested the turbo on the car, boost pipes etc, mine certainly got worse after the remap. but i hads a distant siren sound before. If you get it removed, have a search on google for local turbo rebuilders etc.. Google any feedback on them. My choice was turbocentreuk.co.uk they colled n return, price starts from £200 to £375 + vat, later is totally refurbished, they seem very honest, well so far

Hope this helps bud, I can pm you their contact details

Cheers, shall get looking, I was looking at turbo-technics, I might ask at awesome and see if they can test it,
Yeah that would be great forthe contact details

Turbo bolted back on the car, I took it there yesterday at 3.30,Wow! Inlet side was fine as I said, the exhaust was sooty beyond normal. They fitted new bearings, seals and a new shaft as they couldnt balance the old one! I had my egr deleted with my map, but left on the car unblocked.. Thats now been blanked, would a slightly open egr soot the turbo? And as they are water cooled, my mate has blanked it now, I'll ask him if the fact it was mapped out yet left on the car could cause the dentist drill noise, Jord, did they map out your egr?

id check boost pipe seals replace gaskets and if it is the turbo id then bolt on a hybrid remap it
and have a silly grin on my face every time i drive it

I've replaced all the seals, Havnt replaced gaskets, it's working fine other than siren noise at low revs

Sorry mark, didn't see your post, I havnt had my egr deleted, but was looking at it, it was stuttering before remap but that's stopped now, how much was it to get all work done? I've replaced the seals

Hi jordMy map was done by angel tuning, Nigel Deleted te egr duty cycle within the new map, and my mate blocked the egr off with some plate steel, you could have your pipes pressure tested where some mechanics fill the system with smoke and find the leak, I think it's similar to testing aircon! I'd certainly go down this route before splashing out on a turbo or have yours removed and reconditioned.. A friend of my mates in York could do this for you, but I'm sure you'll have someone nearer you.

Hi mine is making the police sirens also it has got louder after the map would it be worth getting a recon one now as I can get one for 325 + delivery and they want my old one back and the given a 12 months warranty or 12000 miles

The siren noise may not be the turbo! A leak in pressure, faulty /worn intercooler pipe, or a vacuum leak, my advice is to have the system tested by specialists, might save you a fair chunk, but whatever the problem is, the specialists should pinpoint it and give you peace of mind in the long run, sooner rather than later.!

I still dot know if it's actually gonna blown, it's working perfectly apart from noise, no loss of power or over boosting, I've replaced the intercooler seals apart from the seal on the turbo to pipe, my egr valve looks abit sh*tty, also got a rattle at 1800rpm, sounds like a heat shield?
HELP PLEASE! It's driving me nuts

I also get the siren noise at low speeds, though i'm putting mine down to the DPF being removed and the gases being able to resonate. Got no loss of power etc, just the noise. Been told it could also possibly be a slight over boost but nothing to worry about.

I too have the Siren! sounds like police are following me!

Took it for a full service last week and report came back a new turbo was required. Cost was £1200 all in from Audi main dealer, ouch!

Car is 57 plate, thus out of warranty, however only 50k on the clock and full service history.

Rang around a few Independants and researched about refurb, remanufactured, new oem etc...

Managed to get the replacement (new oem) supplied by Audi as 'Factory Good Will' as the car has a FSH and low mileage, only have to pay for fitting ~£400, thus save £800! with 2yrs warranty unlimited mileage!

Worth noting if any of you too have the same problem!

Hi Jord

Mine was rebuilt, no bearing wear, had a tiny bit of endfloat, nothing to worry about, but the shaft wouldnt balance up. unless you have the tools, id let a specialist do it. Did you have the pipes n seals pressure tested?
