    How long....

How long before someone nicks my car ?
Once again i woke up this morning to find the car unlocked and all the windows open. The keys were in my jeans pocket and in sitting down a coin or something pushes the unlock and for some reason this seems to open the windows as well. It doesn't do it when i intentionally unlock the car ? Last time the police knocked on my door to tell me , full marks to them.
Why do Audi put a range on the key fob that goes through 3 brick walls and down the drive ?? I dont ever need to unlock the car unless i am standing next to it. worse still i doubt its even insured like that.

Paddy why don't you turn off the comfort close function for your windows through vcds? Then if you do accidentally open the car it will auto lock after 30 secs because none of the doors have been opened. HTH

I've done this once before. Now I take my keys out my pocket whenever I'm home or sitting in that matter!

Sell your home and move to the neighbouring town, but still park your car outside your old house.
    Problem solved.

What shall we talk about now?

I'm trying to remember if there is an option on vcds to reduce the range of the remote. In the convenience module section?

Its actually worse than i thought because having just taken the car out for the first time today i find the tailgate is open as well. What a crazy design feature that is !!

are you sure it was the 'convenience open feature'?

ive had a similar experience. walked up to my car one morning and one window was up the other down. convenience doesn't do this.

also the side where the window was up had rain inside meaning at some point at night it was open. sat in perplexed, put the key in the ignition and the boot was open too....ok

rang audi and the lady wasn't helpful, she kept insisting it was the convenience open thing. i knew about it and no one touches my car key in the place its kept.

they took it to have a look and you guessed it, they couldn't read the ECU because it was gave them an error. had to bring it back in a week when they had specialist equipment or technicians.

the alarm system is quite buggy, i cant remember the exact routine but i can make it not lock the car. ive tested it several times where i get out of the car with key in had. press lock and nothing happens. press it 5 times nothing happens. i have to physically open the doors then shut for the lock to work again.

This happened to me twice, doors unlocked, both windows & the sunroof open. Turned off the convenience opening on the DIS menu & no problems since - touch wood.

If the boot was actually open and not just unlocked then surely its just down to the boot button being held down on the keyfob, no???
Convenience setting doesn't pop the boot.

Sorry but when you just bought a £35k car you dont expect to have to disable the remote to stop the bloody thing unlocking the doors, disarming the alarm, opening the windows a springing the tailgate while you are watching TV !!! thanks all the same

What a f***ing non thread. Every Audi car I have owned had the same full open/closure system and everyone knows how it works etc. Either get it disabled or take your keys out of your pocket. It's not that hard

    i just LOL'd so hard!
    paddy thats just classic!!!

in all fairness though if your at home why not leave the car keys on a table or in your room or something like that? i never keep my keys on me when im at home, the damn keys are annoying to keep in my pocket.
its weird all the same as unlocking the car and not opening the doors will automatically lock again. im not sure if it automatically locks again if the windows are opened with the convenience feature though??
do you actually use the convenience windows feature much? if not just disable that on the DIS and see if it happens again?

Put them in a post, hang them up when you get in.
Or put a landyard on them and hang them round your neck.

One thought is so that you can open the windows on a very hot day and have the car a little cooler when you get to it.
Or so you can unlock the car, the coming home lights come on to help light the way to the car when its dark.

Paddy - did you never have that problem with your ol' 3.2 tractor? Surely the same keyfob no?

Look on the bright side - you've now got many ideas for alternative places to put the keys and much trouser based fashion advice to boot (please excuse my use of the word boot).

Leave your car unlocked when you walk away from it, then the next time a coin presses the remote it will lock the car for you. Problem solved!

    Hi Bigbird
No the old 3.2 JCB had recessed buttons, made all the difference. I appreciate what people are saying about hanging ya keys up somewhere but it doesn't help when you go shopping and have to double check the windows didnt open after you locked up and walked away. I am also still within range on the second floor of my work place .....interesting to see other people who have had the same thing.
If it was me designing the fob i would have a system where the buttons were uncovered when you flick the key out or just disabled when the key was in the stored position......but then i am a design engineer so what would i know :-)

Why dont you buy a second car without a remote keyfob and just use that instead? I should be a problem solver
