Hi, I just went to my local Audi dealership to arrange a service (I've had the car a few weeks and want the first service to be at the dealership in case its missed any recalls). I spoke to the gent at the desk and he said a couple of things which seemed odd to me, is he right:

- My car has bluetooth but no MFSW, he told me my bluetooth must be aftermarket as Audi wouldn't provide bluetooth without a MFSW. (2006 2.0T A3 - the caller id and number are displayed in the dis when its active)

- I asked if I could upgrade the steering wheel for a MF one, he said that it couldn't be done, or it might be possible but it would be so expensive it wouldn't be worth doing.

- I told him I was considering a remap in the new year for a little more grunt, he told me to avoid it at all costs and that the turbo on the 2.0 tfsi engine would be guaranteed to blow up within 2k miles!!!

It's the first time I've had the 'pleasure' of dealing with an Audi garage, but I have a feeling its all unhelpful twoddle, how correct is my local Audi specialist here?

Oh, and I also asked for a list of phones for which they sell a cradle for the dash mounted phone holder (of which I have one), he said they didn't have a list but if I get him the model of the phone I have then he would see what he could do - But I need a list to know which phone I can buy, grrrr.

He's talking rubbish on this one. I have factory fitted bluetooth with no MFSW and so did my last A3.

Anything is possible but if you're turbo is in good shape then this is highly unlikely. Many people have remapped 2.0Ts and their turbos are doing just fine.
Its the turbos on the TDIs which are mostly seen as the weak turbos in the A3 range, but even those can be fine with a remap.

[/h]YES they always do!

Bullsh*t - As Ads has said

more bullsh*t - a new steering wheel will cost about £120 ish, its a case of fitting which is a 10 minute job. is yours a DSG? if so then you already have the correct steering controller module that will accept the MF buttons, or you may need to get one of those modules which is about £60-£80 off ebay if you can find one. also need a £25 cable to connect the buttons from the MFSW to the airbag if you dont already get this with the wheel.

Does this guy think he is god or something giving you that figure? WTF???

I hate dealers, they talk rubbish in an attempt to get more money out of you.
if you want to know any recalls or updates, phone audi uk and ask them, not your local dealer.

Not a DSG so I'd need the extra module.

Thanks for all the info guys, very helpful :salute:

Main dealers of any brand are wary of thinking and doing anything out of the ordinary. They are not geared to understand anybody other than those who want to buy a regular car and have no interest or intentions of messing with it. For the dealer such oddball enquiries take up too much time and their sales and service staff not trained or have little knowledge other than what the manufacturers teach them.
Always better to approach specialist modifiers and tuners who have a proven track record of improving standard fare AND have the proper tools and diagnostic equipment. Be aware also main dealers do all servicing with time and profit the motivator.
I took my newly purchased used A3 for a proper investigative check over and full service by an ex-Audi engineer now running a superbly successful garage specialising in Audi/VW and it was alarming how many itmes had been missed when the dealer had last serviced the car. Why the guy even treated the entire underbody and engine compartment to a clean de-grease and protectant.

just because you dont have the DSG it doesnt mean that you dont have that module, as you may still have it. best way to find out is to get the car scanned. also do you have cruise control?

If I take your initial question and apply it to most of the dealers whose service depts I've visited it's unfortunately true they talk rubbish.

I've had a Forge DV binned because it didn't work (I eventually got it back, working).

I've just been told RS3 wheels don't fit the S3

I've been told Audi spark plugs last 60,000 miles and won't fail early.....

I could go on but it's too tedious when they charge £150 an hour. I've never experienced such incompetence or incosistent information when being charged so much.

If you assume pretty much the opposite of what your main dealer tells you the chances are you are already closer to the truth.

Hmmm, a scan you say? Where would I get one of those done, any decent independent garage or is it specialist?

Yes, I have cruise control too.

fitting and coding will be required so you will need someone to code it all for you.
fitting a steering wheel is a doddle... takes about 10 minutes really.

An example of Dealers talking rubbish..............I asked for a quote for the Aluminium S3 pedals to be fitted, they said it would be £175 as it is almost 2 hours labour!!! Utter crap, I found a reliable local VAG mechanic who replaced the accelerator pedal and teched it in 5 minutes!!!!
What a joke considering I paid over 25k for the car from them! They must think we were born yesterday.................:wtf:

Thanks man, I bought the 3rd one down - woohoo - Just need to actually understand what else I need and how on earth I go about fitting it.... much reading required me thinks!

Did you check it has the same airbag fitment as yours?

There are 2 types (3 spoke shield) and they look the same from the outside but are not interchangeable.

Mike Foster may be able to shed more light?

its where the airbag screws onto the steering wheel. some have angled screw points where others are flat. need to get your airbag off the original wheel to make sure which version you have.

No I didn't check the airbag fitment, tbh I thought the two different types were round or shield, I didn't realise there was 2 different shield airbags, nevermind, hopefully lady luck will be with me, if not I'll have to buy one - d'oh.

Do you (you being anyone who is reading this!) know of anyone in the North West who could check/code it for me, I did pm a guy based in cumbria on here (whom I found on the vag com location map), with no response as of yet (
