Using 17" spare with 18" wheels??....

Hello, I'm looking for a bit of advice....I need to remove a 'kerbed' 18" alloy so it can be refurbed...can I put a 17" wheel on as a spare until I get damaged wheel back??...the rolling diameter will be the same as the 17 has a higher profile. Also it's an A3 Quattro will it affect the drive train??

my space saver is 16" on my sline with 18" that was fun. that should be fine if you drive sensably
