s3 3P remap with ITG Maxogen intake

how well the performance would be like? would it drain alot more on petrol? also want to hear from some ppl who just got remap on new s3 how is it affecting the warrenty because i asked about it at audi on the phone, the moment if i remap the car it would comepetely void of the warrenty no matter even if its like the suspension. thanks to those who is willing to give advice.

Good way is to use bluefin where you can map it back to standard whenever needed using external device however their maps are controversial and sometimes you hardly see any dfference powerwise.
    Be patient. English is tough.

You can get switchable maps with REVO, GIAC and maybe Evolve too, bluefin maps are very tame compared to all the others I just mentioned and not worth it.

The OEM intake is....well rubbish to be fair, but given they weren't prepared to relocate the battery into the boot it was the best they could do by integrating it into the engine cover.

An ITG can offer in excess of 15bhp improvement which is pretty significant, but shows how increased filter media surface area combined with a good pipework feed unlocks extra BHP. I have no issue with paper filters in NA cars, and if the intake system pipe work flows well it's fine, but if you run a high boost turbo charged system you want a free flowing system that enables the turbo to pull as much air as it demands.

If you want your warranty to remain intact then either:

    1) leave as is
    2) switch car back to standard and take bits off for service work

Fuelling is more likely to be affected by how you choose to drive the car rather than the mods themselves. I'm always amazed that people who buy an S3 and then mod it dare mention BHP? Why, just why? Buy a diesel!

Sound wise the ITG is loud, raspy and unsubtle. Some love it, some don't, but I think it gives the car which is a touch polite from factory a soul.

Bluefin is attractive because you can switch between the standard and Bluefin maps (using a handheld device - takes about 10 minutes). If you were looking to detect a standard car that had Bluefin in the past, it is possible to count the number of updates that the ECU has had and make the inference - although that's unlikely.

As others have said, Bluefin maps are usually quite conservative. That said, in the case of the S3 map it gives a peak of 310bhp and a very flat torque map, which is competitive with most Stage 1 maps on the market.

My issue with Bluefin is that whilst clever from a controller perspective the maps are.... Lacking in sparkle.

Ive heard their production window is time bound which means they may not spend as much time honing the product as some of the others but I can't be certain as this isnt from horses mouth. It however makes sense when you see the output, and even one of their agents who will remain nameless has said 'it's a good product that takes care of the basics whilst offering the user convenience'. Read into that what you will. Horses for courses, it's not a bad product at all, some really like it, but I think there's more bang for buck out there.

With just the ITG? Or ITG & map?

With just the ITG like Warren says it's not going to make it massively quicker but it is noticeable and is an important piece of the puzzle when tuning these cars if you get what I mean.

enough difference to lose your license

    in 2nd and 3rd gear.
by the way thats from a map thats not as aggressive as REVO.

I love these threads not matter how often they turn up
Warren has answered spot on, if overly worried about your warranty then don't do it but it has been my experience that most dealers aren't bothered as warranty work is very lucrative for them, keep the mods discreet or remove them for your annual service and should be no problem.

From a rmap choice perspective I would suggest stick with main players and don't be lead by price as you generally get what you pay for.

My personal preference after trying, Bluefin, GIAC and Revo is REVO all day long.

Consistent, proven gains with plenty of R&D.

I have an Evolve map on the wifes 320D and it has been faultless from day one with excellent gains so worth considering if conveniently located, also hearing very good things about Shark Performance.

Intake wise, I have tried VF, Evoms and ITG and if pushed I'd have to say i noticed little difference between them, the ITG can look a little makeshift in its build due to the number of components but sound and performance can't be faulted.
Now I have just bought back my previous S3 I will just go with the cheapest I can source out of the above 3 intakes, but do it, the car gains character as per Warren's post.

I have just bluefin my p2 s3 and Im very satisfied with it and at the moment its available £365 delivered from DT,s also come sale time the handset has some value on fleebay it seems.
It does what I expected ie beefed up the midrange and added a little to the top end, based on butt dyno Im sure my car was delivering more than 261. I have no idea what the others offerings are like but I can say I APR,ed my 8l s3 and this Bluefin is better value if less power difference but the 8l potential is higher 225 - 272 claimed.

Also fwiw a colleague has had his p3 s3 dsg stage 1 revo and is now suffering the dreaded miss fire, something is wrong with revo software.

Horses for courses but imo £365 BF is tempting and it persuaded me.

I have had 2 x S3 tuned to stage 2 + and a TTS, none of which suffered any form of misfire, all ran on Revo.
The first car ran on GIAC and Bluefin fine too but never made the numbers on any dyno days.

Bluefin is okay but as said very conservative, for the record had 6 cars remapped by the Guys at Superchips and got to know some of them quite well so would love to be able to say different, but Revo whups them every time.

Having said that £365 will buy you an improvemnt over stock plus you will get the SChips supplementary warranty so still worthwhile

Looks like you have read the book so I will have to defer. Im guessing the BF stage 2 would be more in line with Revo stg 1 despite supposedly requiring a 200 cell cat and new panel filter ( which wont make any difference ) Have you run BF stg 2 and do you think I could run it stock exhaust ? Also when you say BF didnt make the numbers I assume you mean peak because im sure there is the published increase in midrange torque.

Always gone down the BF or P-torque map routes, as they may not make the same pub bragging rights as others but they're a lot smoother and not as spikey as others. again it's down to personnel preference.

The DP and cats make a much bigger difference than you'd expect, I was cynical but then pleasantly surprised and it's only when you see the OEM unit side by side with the aftermarket exhaust that you see the limitations that have been engineered into the OEM system to make it quite, conservative and comply with noise / comfort / emissions standards.

One image which gives a clear idea of the limitations of the DP is this (OEM right). It just won't clear gases like the aftermarket unit once your boost goes up:

Picture 2: Full System (OEM now left hand side)

From the cats back the benefits diminish so you can get a DP and race cats, then join them to OEM mid section / back box without too much negative effect (and a cost saving in the process). If you're doing it for proper performance over sound, do the front as a minimum, if you're doing it to be a 'scene' by all means just do the cat back.

You'll need to make sure your map will accommodate the new exhaust system as various sensor values are adjusted when replacing the exhaust system (off the top of my head can't remember which ones).

BF2 I'd expect to be slightly more lively than the Revo S1, but as per your comment I've had a panel filter in the OEM air box and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference as the surface area of the filter media does not increase meaning you have the same restriction, the air may just have less resistance getting through foam filter thn paper.

Ok I get it now and usefull pics thanks. Has the OEM FP got pre and post cats ?
Im not interested in noise ,quite the opposite in fact (another old fart) or looks just power and tbh was thinking of gutting the primary and fitting a 200 cell in the secondary location (or maybe leave in place the stock ) as its cheaper and looks pretty stock. Seeing the pics that FP certainly looks pretty squished.

The OEM centre box has a gas bypass, whats that all about ?

Hi Guys, can you tell me where I can get a GIAC remap, how much it would cost, and what increase in bhp I can expect? I am also after an ITG induction kit if anyone has one?

    thanks

Warren, extremely helpful. Thanks for the photos be interesting to see what the front part of the system looks like on mine as im certainly considering later in the new year to switch over the front section only to release a tad more power with a revised map.
