    Clutch Revo Stage 2+

    hi guys/girls in the new year i will be getting the last little bits fitted to my s3 for a revo stage 2+ remap and was going to get the clutch changed to cope with the extra power as most of you have said you have done. i was just wondering which of these is the best option? :-

    NEITHER!

    go for Sachs + OEM LUK Dual Mass Flywheel, plenty of people running this setup including myself. S3Alex uses this set up for his S3 which is running ~500BHP.

    DMF from here Car Parts and Car Accessories - Buy Parts By - type reg and find the part. (they're over half price compared to Audi!!!)

    the ones you listed are Single Mass Flywheel. Which is noisy and a bit on/off for road use.

    Out of curiosity, on a car with low mileage is the change of DMF a must, or it is just a case of if you have the gearbox off, just do it? I may end up having this done very early on (under 10k miles), and wondered as it will mostly be running in mileage if I need to bother changing a DMF that wont have had a hard life?

    If your changing it that early and the cars hasn’t been running stage 2+ for too long I would say it will be fine without changing it. Best thing to do is get it changed somewhere that has a DMF in stock just in case. AMD said to me that if changed early enough you will not need a new DMF. I Shot mine with Stage 2+ so I knew it must be pretty knackered so opted for whole new unit (as it was all in pieces) The DMF from bypartsby is around £290. So not “overly” expensive.

    I've been told another good choice is the Spec Stg2+ or Stg3 clutch.

    Spent a bit of time talking to one of the guys over in the states at spec about a good setup after being told about these clutches from Revo Kev. After a little while I've made the decision to go with a Stg3 clutch with billet flywheel combo from Spec.

    It's capable of 480+lb/ft and shipped to the UK for around £700.

    There stg 2+ & stg3+ clutch uses the original Dual Mass flywheel but apparently these oscillate and become unreliable so they always recommend there billet flywheels (as you'd expect). The Stg2+ clutch is capable of 450lb/ft and stg3+ is 560lb/ft

    There are plenty of good solutions to be had.

    I've stuck with the Sachs as its working fine and has given no problems either at Stg2+ or Stg3 so far.

    Torque is the thing that kills cutches aside from drag starts and the Sachs is good for well over 420lbs as mine will show.

    With SMF flywheels you do need to accept a lot more noise and vibration and if you already have up rated engine mounts,you may feel like the car has turned into a coffee grinder.

    The Southbend,Helix and Loba (which is Sachs derived if I remember ) are all well tried and the Spec I don't know.

    Revo are now recommending the Spec clutches, but I've had no experience of them. Will try and get out in one of their cars which is running one next time I'm up there.

    After our conversation with Kev, I got in contact with Spec. They did say that a company called CA Automotive (CA Technologies International Ltd) do supply there VW/Audi kits in the UK. I haven't spoken to CA as yet because the prices getting them direct from Spec seem very appealing with the £ being strong against the $.

    Just adding to this, I've had a chat with the guys at CA Automotive and they can indeed supply the Spec clutches. Once I get this installed I'll let you know how I get on with it.

    incorrect Our clutch there the OP posts is a Organic type so is NOT on/off as you say, its has a very Oem feel, on off type feel is much more a sintered type (4-6 puc ) friction plate tail-off, all single mass flywheels do have a chatter or vibration at low rpm some more then others Alu flys more then our steel type we use, normally chatter is when in wrong gear, but single mass type offer the advantages over daul mass where as are off a lighter weight thus less mass off inertia= greater performance
