18" RS6 wheels - bigger profile tyres?

Getting my 18" RS6 wheels refurbished and was given 17" wheels to run on in the meantime. The ride quality is much better as the larger profile tyres absorb the bumps well. I'm running 225/40/R18. Can I get profile 45s with these wheels? I've heard people running larger width tyres too. What are my options thanks.

Running 225/45 instead of 225/40 is only going to give you an extra 6mm of side wall.

As Fran says, not really worth it.

also your rolling distance will be more so your speedo will be off.. just downgrade to 17s if you really like it.

EDIT: i am willing to swap my 17's with your 18s if you want??

Its when you start getting down to 35s that the price usually jumps up. 225/40s are about the cheapest size for 18s.

225/40x18 is a common size of tyre, as is 225/45x17 and 205/55x16, and they all pretty much give the same rolling distance so don't muck up the speedo.

I'm currently running winter tyres which are 205/55x16, compared to my summer 225/45x17 and there isn't a whole load of difference in the ride quality. I think you'd be hard pushed to notice the difference in 225/45x18 vs 225/40x18

Actual diameter change = 23mm

We recommend a MAXIMUM of +/- 2.5% difference

When considering changing wheel and tyre sizes, it is necessary to maintain a diameter that is as close as possible to the original so that the gearing of the drive train is not adversely impacted. Doing so will also ensure that the ride height will not change significantly.
