Hi all,
Looking to purchase an A3, found one I like, 58reg (new shape) with 60k on the clock.
Now I asked the garage whether the cambelt has been changed as the norm seems to be around 60k, he said the new engines don't need it until 115k.

Can anyone shed any light on the above?
If it does need doing, how much am I looking at?

I don't want to splash out on the motor if I need to plough maintenance fees into it as soon as I buy it.
:)
Regards

What engine is it? I have a 06 A3 2.0 TDI (140) with 71k on the clock and phoned kennys auto vw & audi specialist who told me you should change the belt & water pump at 80k. Kenny used to be the foreman mechanic at highland audi before he opened his own business, so when i said the audi website recommends you change it at 5 years/75k which ever comes first he said that is just a money making scheme, apparently the a3's after 2003 have a much stronger belt and are based on mileage only, dosen't matter how long the belt has been on the car. I'm on a long life service which will be due at 78k so i'll get the belt & pump changed then.
