hi Guys,

I was looking around for some info on this german site when i came across this retrofit and wondered what you guys think of it?

Google Translate

it moves the Cig lighter (12v) under the armrest and has the cup holders by the handbrake making it easier to store drinks and especially bottles in the car.

EDIT: If link isnt loading a proper page click on the 'Translate' button at the top for it to reload the page to show the details

I like all the wee sockets hidden away like that but highly visible cup holders like that look utterly pish. I'm not a drink/cup holder fan in general though, never used them on any car and always feel the need to remove the half empty bottle that my wife always leaves stuck to the dash in her car.

They should of done that as standard.

it is in the US apparently...

yh thats the reason i started this post... i find it useful as the charging points are hidden and it will hold drink bottles... when i try to put a coke bottle into the current drink holder it pushes up the armrest and it gets uncomfortable so i chuck it into the door pocket.
but the thing that makes me think twice about this is how ugly it looks from the Drivers side... or is it just me thinking this?

Now I like that!!!

Coming from a 2004 A3 with a dash board cup holder to a 2007 S3 with RNSE with coin holder, I miss my cup flange!!!

I am going to enquire more about this today!

That is brilliant and as said above you can charge your phone etc without anyone seeing them. Definitely should of done this from standard!

Could you not fit the charging points in the middle where the cup holders are at the moment?

I'm not sure what your centre consoles look like at the moment.

It does look okay in that pic. But I doubt they would use a realistic picture showing a half drunk bottle of coke stuck in there and the other cup holder containing sweetie wrappers, the odd coin and lots of little bits of dust/dead skin.

I'd be quite interested in doing the moving the sockets etc to under the armrest and just getting rid of all drink holders. My hatred for drinking vessel receptacles really is that strong. I do however like a fruit gum while I'm driving, anyone know if there's a fruit gum holder mod?

can't you put the fruit gums in the silly useless pocket by the current cig lighter? the only use i have for that little pocket is to put my iPhone pouch into while the iPhone is in its dock... i dont mind loosing that pocket as i can always just chuck things into the armrest

we also need pictures up when its done! I like the look of this mod too, and hope its not going to be too difficult!

at least this one shouldn't need coding...

haha no your right no coding... but it does involve some wiring so i hope whoever does try this mod, wires in the cig lighters and fuses them correctly!

i need to get some money together and may well leave this mod for a couple months as i have cards on the table :ninja:

Or wire the Aux port up to the cig lighter. lol

Tarot cards or poker? :)

Does anyone know if you can replace the cigarette lighter with a 12v aux socket like the one in the mod above? I mean is there a non-smoking pack that replaces the lighter with a power socket?
I've searched on ebay but found nothing. I'm probably searching for the wrong thing though.

no probs mate, i was looking to do that as well as i dont like having something sticking out there but now that i have found the US centre console i will do this and then rewire another 2 12v connections, 1 to the glove box and another to the boot for other appliances/chargers.

noooooooooooooooope :Flush:

maybe the sockets in place of cupholders within the sliding part but without adding them anywhere else LOL.

Ewan i will do an oem job, some A3s have them already in the boot on the drivers side near the bose amp with a little flap like the one pictured above so i want to install one of those. the other will hide at the back of the glove box on the top right shelf next to where an ipod is kept
