Fuel Filter Renewal Early Type

Hi all, please excuse my novice question.

I have an 8P 2.0TDi and have the early type fuel filter (with drain screw). I have read up on the procedure for removal in the Haynes and have attempted to remove the filter, the Haynes reckons you just give it a good tug to pull it out, however this appears not to be the case. Am I being too soft?

You might need to pry it off.. try using a flat head screwdriver. Be careful and patient. It'll come off.
