URGENt HELP NEEDED!! - new keys plus ecu advice

Hi,

My car was stolen about 6 weeks ago and recovered without the keys. The car is a audi a3 2.0TDI Sport 3 door. The car has been at the 'insurance approved garage' for about 4 weeks now and today i got informed they are going to write the car off. They had a company down to replace the keys and they are now telling me they still havent been able to start the car because the ecu is corrupt and theirs nothing they can do. I want to keep the car as their is a few minor scratches and ideally when i get the car back it will get wrapped.

Any advice is greatly appreciated in regards to the key situation. Does this normally happen? or can i just source a ecu off another audi a3 with the keys plus barrels?

Also if anyone knows any companys that specialise in this?

Sorry not sure about the ecu but interested to know why would you want your car back??

You will loose a huge amount when it comes to resale as its been stolen/recovered?
Plus its probably been ragged around by the thieves?
 
Audi dealers can sort out the keys and ecu problem... though it wont be cheap. i think its about £150 - 200 just for a new key. you may have other issues to deal with though.

you cannot swap the ECU as its the immobiliser that is going to be the main issue here. you mentioned that they have changed the locks and have keys but cannot start the car... this is typical of the immobiliser not letting you start it and this can be fixed by Audi as they can get the right Immo codes from germany. I'm sure there is a few other guys here that can confirm what i'm saying.

i am not too sure why you would want to keep the car though... get it off the insurance after they write it off for the 20-25% buy back price and then sell it on for a profit on top of the insurance pay out.

That is correct. The immobiliser chip in the key is a 'one-off' chip i.e. can't be re-programmed and is matched to the immobiliser in the instrument panel. The 'secret' code for the immo chip is held in Germany and Audi dealers can get access provided loads of proof of identity and ownership are provided. The chip in the new key has to be coded with this bit of 'secret' information before the car will start.

That's why it's £150 - £200 for a new key that works !!
