    Weird tut noise on idle? Tdi 2.0(video uploaded)

    A3 tdi 2.0 sport 04 140

    It's making a tutting noise on idle
    Coming from cambelt side
    Around alternator area

    It's just on idle
    When rev noise goes

    It's like tut(no noise) tut ( no noise) tut tut
    Etc

    It's not constant. Every few seconds.

    Ideas?

    Drove 100 miles with it no problems. Just on idle?

    Doesnt sound like egr leaking.. as its definately coming from alternator area. thought the egr was gearbox side(not belt side)

    when warm it seems to disapear and then come back, but slowly coming in now and then. ive also changed my throttle body recently to a pieberg one.
    i have no fault codes according to vag.

    ideas?

    If its the same noise as mine which it sounds like it could be its ur EGR vavle leaking. ive been told i will need to replace mine at some point. It may not be that so dont hold me by it.

    Thats not the same noise as mine sorry mate but just get someone to look at it. does sound like a belt noise tho. all the best hope it isnt anything serious.

    its not coming from belt so to speak.
    its more alternator,aircon pump.

    im thinking its the bearings in the alternator.

    The cambelt sits further back so i know its not that(thankfully) lol

    is it the one before the alternator?
    easy to replace?

    remove the alternator belt then start the car,if it is the alternator at least that will be illiminated.

    to remove belt,
    pull alternator tensioner(with 10mm spanner foward(towards slam panel)
    and lock it

    remove belt and start?

    there auto tensioners on these yea?

    yes,i think when you pull towards the slam panel this will release the tension on the belt then you can pull the belt off,im sure the alternator has a free wheeling pulley ,which can get noisy,you can just buy the pulley and replace it. Once the belt is off you may be able to spin the pulley by hand and find out if its noisy. Heres a price/link. AUDI A3 A4 A6 1.9 2.0TDI FSI ALTERNATOR BELT PULLEY | eBay ...but shop around im sure you may find one cheaper,but try tps or audi/vw/skoda/seat........

    Yes mate.also if belt dont look too good replace it.

    2009 (58) plate audi A3 Sline 2.0TDI, DRL's with washers, Half Leather / Alcantara, I Pod Aux, 15% tints / EM tuning L.E.D. interior upgrade, fully machine corrected!
