Hello,

Sorry i'm new here and i couldn't find the exact answer to my question.
This is my car - it's a 2006 S-Line 2.0 Turbo FSI

I'm wanting to put spacers on. The wheels are 17" standard Audi ones.
What is the maximum mm i could put on?

If your keeping it standard height with standard wheels you should be fine with 10mm front and 15mm rear.

It also depends how often you have a full car.

OP, I'm pretty sure they are 18" not 17", Don't know if that changes the answer above.

I was just going to start a very similar thread so if the OP doesn't mind I'll tag along. I've got the same 18" wheels with 225/40 tyres. Only difference is mine is a sportback and I may(or not) lower it on 50mm H&R springs (I've got no mates so rarely have passangers)
 
I have been playiong around with spacers overe the last week or so, and admit that the initial advice was 10mm front and 12mm rear.

im on H&R springs and have just taken my summer wheels off for a refurb, and reverted back to the standard 18's.

wanting to push the envelope, i decided to go for 12mm front and 15mm rear and see what happened.

15mm on the rear was a step too far and it gave me a rub issue that was beyond somethiong you could live with. so the 12mm went on the rear and under a heavy load you get the odd rub, but no great issue.

this left me with a dilemma, and i opted to put the 15mm of the front and below you can see a pic. it works fine, the fronts dont protrude and are right on the limit. Given my time again, i would go 12mm all round, but the 15mm front does work.

i drive my car a fair bit and do a fair amount of track work in a radical so have some idea of knowing what works and what doesnt from a performance perspective.

the front end bite is now about as good as its going to get and i was surprised at the difference it made, and the overall balance of the car with the ARBs, springs and spacers is about as good as its going to get for what i need.

i appreciate this is different to the tried and tested 10mm front 12mm rear option, but is just my 2c's and my experience.

That's a big help Darren. Do you know if the track is the same on the S3 as it is on other models? Those VMR wheels look fantastic.

Ads, I never realised the offset was so high on those wheels. For some reason I thought it was about 45, when I say "thought" I really mean "assumed based on no information what so ever :sorry:" I suppose instead of 10mm spacers I could just buy wheels the same width with a 45 offset :think:
 
Punch - Yep, OEM RS6s sit quite far in. They are also a little narrow IMO (7.5J I think).

My wheels are ET45 and 8.5J wide (so I'm getting a little bit of stretch on my 225/40 tyres giving a bit more clearance), and they sit just right at the front with no rubbing at all.
Lookswise the rears could do with being another 5mm or so out, but I reckon the rubbing might get too frequent unless I remove the small bolt in the rear arches.

Mine is lowered 50mm at the front and 40mm at the back (still needs to settle a bit more so will end up about 5-10mm lower than these pics).

I have no idea why I was so confused about the sizing of standard RS6s. Not only did I think the offset was 45 but I also thought they were 8J :tocktock:. This explains why the 225s stick out so far. I need new front tyres so think i'll stick with 225s and get me some 8 or 8.5j with a lower offset.

There are about three types of RS6/S-line style alloys. OEM A3, OEM A4, and reps.

You might've been thinking about RS6 reps or the A4s. Both have an offset of about ET45, and I think the OEM A4 RS6s are 8j wide.
 
Yup, I must have seen reps advertised that were 8J with ET45. I had figured the A4 ones were wider than the A3 ones since most of the A4s I see are on 235s without the stupid muffin top effect of my 225s.

Great thread :) I'm in the process of putting spacers and springs on my 2.0t quattro 3 door. Bought the 15mm spacers should come tomorow, but having a nightmare finding 45mm springs to vet a 20mm drop. Everyone seems to say 15mm spacers rub, I think I'm gonna risk it and put them on see how they are. If not I'll try 12mm. But any ideas on springs, I called my local audi specialist tuning shop they could only get me 30mm springs which would give me a 5mm drop and tried getting me to buy some £400 coilovers 45-75mm, which is tempting but would rather springs. :/

Anyone?
 
are mine definitely 18"?
the tyre size reads 225/40 ZR18 - so i presume the 18 stands for 18 inch?
can anyone recommend a specific set of spacers for me?

Jake, have you tried looking for the 40 -50mm H&R springs? I think there's also the option of Eibach Sportline ones which state 45-50mm front and 35 - 40mm rear. Either of those should be close to what you want.
 
hi mate, yes i have looked everywhere but i cannot find any for a 3 door quattro.... H&R is what i want really, my only option seems to be coilovers.
 
Will i need radius or cone bolts? Does anyone know?

I'm also having a problem with my new setup
Runing on oem pescaras ET 43 8J with 225/40 tyres with 24 mm h & r spacers on the back

some rubbing with the small bolt in the rear arches. Not sure if I will remove it will solve my problem...
Any ideas ?

Tom no need to double post just to get an aswer.
Here's your answer : Tapered collar screw, 60°
My dimensions are 14 x 1,5 x 40 for the 24 mm H & R spacers
Hope this will help
