I like the look of it, i also love the sportback, i think its understated. Knowing you could park it up and leave it and no one would know its an RS3 is a nice thought, also knowing you could leave behind cars which should be much quicker with ease.

Will have to wait for them to get about, see more driver reviews and im sure a few on here will pick one up and modify. Im looking at about 3 years and i would guess they will be around the £25k mark at this point for an average spec average mile one, £30k for a minter.

I had a look over the RS3 in Edinburgh Audi, i must say i was a little disappointed tbh. Just little things, they could have done so much
with it. The biggest disappointment for me was the wheels, yes these can be changed, but when the car has an asking price of 40k you
    shouldnt have too.

Its a heavy beast mate! After its traction advantage the weight starts to show.

A remapped one should see high 3 sec 0-60 runs and maybe a 13 dead 1/4

Remember a stage 2+ S3 is running around 370+ bhp

ecactly my plan, although think they could reach the 30k mark a lot sooner than 3 years. Well i hope so, next year hoepfully!!

Not mint low mileage ones, maybe some high mileage cars will hit £30k next year but options will also be sparse on these i expect.

Less, its a newer car and the engine returns similar mpg. Repairs wont be needed at all unless you are unlucky. So its just insurance, fuel, servicing (similar), MOT and Tax costs

I don't think anyone's gonna be able to give you a price difference in pence mate!? Obviously if you break it it's going to cost you.. But so does the 225, in fact repair costs relative to Market value, the 8L is always going to lose that one unfortunately.. The s tronic box is lesslikely to break compared to a clutch going in a 300bhp+ manuel.. Other than that you'll have to get insurance quotes yourself! Running costs are going to be about the same, as jules says.

    He can quote it.

Your section is full of people with problems! Not many on here (S3 owners) as the car is newer. Older ones may start to suffer with issues. Mine is a 57 plate (08) car and nothing is wrong.

Before a big row starts, lol, I think that if we had 10 yr old 8p s3's on around 100k on the mileage, we would have most if not all the same problems..

Not really, this will have been taken into account already, then you look at the running costs of the two.

I think this thread has got to the point where we're gonna be starting to state the obvious now... For the OP:
8p=newer less miles (generally!) therefore more to buy,
8L= older, more miles (again generally!!) therefore less to buy,
Running and repair costs virtually identical

27-33mpg depending on how you drive it for 8P, so probably in the ballpark of an 8L.

Tyres and brakes are likely to be much of a muchness, maybe slightly more expensive on the 8P for front brakes as they're big heavy lumps.

Depends on whether you by your 8P new with 3 years of warranty, or out of warranty (56/07/57). Big ticket price items are clutches where you need to budget around a grand, and closer to £1750 if you do DMF, release bearings etc.

Other than that there isn't that much that seems to be going wrong with 8P's on a regular basis.

I think you'd be better off working out how much you can afford to set aside for a month for the running of a car, and if you can afford it and you want to allocate the money to an 8P then do it. Too many people just look at MPG and purchase costs, but if you factor in wear and tear, any financing APR's, depreciation and servicing I think it's probably costing me in the ballpark of £11-12k per year to have an S3 and doing 12,000 miles a year in it.

    Finance = £4700
    Servicing & tyres= £1200
    Tax & insurance = £800
    Fuel (12k per yr r @ £1.40/litre) = £3000
    Depreciation (assume £250 pcm) = £3000

So there is £12,700 spent in a year (very poor science / logic applied), but it gives you an indicative figure of the overall cost of financing a new S3 year on year over a 3 year life cycle based on a full 30% cash deposit (and assumes nothing major goes wrong that costs).

    lol at the misquoted sig

Going about racing is different than enjoying an opportunity when it arises, going about would suggest you leave the house just to look for races. Using my car when someone wants to try, if its safe to do so and im in the mood is different.

    Very clever, but not.

Post number 1 is for a B7, that was a 2006, so hardly old. Which shows new cars can have problems.
All other problems have been rectified on there own, without me spending any money on them. The joys of having a car that I actually own, rather then pay back monthly is that even if I had to pay for the problems to be fixed, it probably still wouldn't cost what 1 or 2 of other peoples repayments are..

I earn enough to not worry about the payments, i wouldnt have done it otherwise, not sure why people always put the finance argument forward. I owned my MK5 R32 outright and finance the S3, i live just the same as i did when i owned the Golf.

That's like saying 'not sure why people worry about maintenance costs'. It's part of the cost of owning the car, therefore it's a valid argument.

And I never once said that you couldn't afford to pay finance on your car, not did I even imply that you had finance..

Seeing as you were talking directly to me after a quote then mentioned its nice as you dont pay your car monthly.

Fact is every person on this forum who has an 8P had the option to buy the 8L as it is cheaper. They didnt. Nuff said

I was quoting the fact that you had failed in your attempts to put my car down as 1 of the posts was from my parents Audi..

The original discussion was relating to whether the OP should change to an 8P. Us 8L boys are obviously going to argue the pro's of our car, as are you. The reason it's turned into an argument is because the 8L has been put down unnecessarily, with comments to do with the how slow it is, yet a map makes it as quick as a stock 8P s3, how unreliable it is, despite them being 10 years old +, but mostly that because they don't cost as much that they are crap.

I'm with you mate, so I'll bump this again.

The issue is people don't use their mouths and their ears in the ratio they were handed out. If they did internet forums may actually be a useful place full of quality information rather than boys clubs full of opinions and conjecture that get misinterpreted as facts.

Would love to see proof of this. How much does the 8L map too?

Warren, we are not arguing. I have no malice or dislike for anyone, including Reesy, i expect he is the same. Forums would be boring and die in months if they were for facts, how many times are the same questions asked every week?

This entertains me at work and at home, as it has for others

I have not insinuated you cant afford anything, anyone can get finance.

I have a mortgage, which is why i sold my R32 (for a profit!) and got a car on finance.
