Hi all,

I currently have an 09 Focus ST-3, amazing car, very quick, however it is killing me on fuel about 300 miles out of a tank, if im lucky : (

I am looking at an A3 SB 2.0tdi (170ps) BE either an S-Tronic or Quattro.

Just thought I would see what you would all recomend? Also what sort of range do you all get out of the 2.0tdi?
General information on what its like to own, servicing cost etc?

Cheers Oz

A remapped and dpf deleted A3 will see 220bhp and 350+ft-lb - so going from a Ford to an Audi, if you can afford to do it, its a no brainer!

on my 2.0 tdi (140) i get anywhere from 45 - 62 mpg... that all depends on what mood i am in... usually in the mornings on my way to work when there are far too many cars on the road i end up having to follow others on the motorway doing 70mph so i can get above 60mpg...
when i thrash it around for a bit i usually get around 40mpg but i dont like 'driving it like i stole it'

No disrespect meant here mate .But focus look plastic too me ,was a huge Ford fan back in the day . I had all the Escorts mexico's etc .Never Ever will i go back after owning a few Audis .My 140 SB makes me smile daily especially when its a month a time filling her up .Do it ! And never look back ;)

I have a A3 SB BE 170 S-Tronic (11 plate) and getting 49.5mpg which is worked out manually and not via the DIS...I do 40 miles a day steady driving to & throw from work (going past schools - and lot's of them) during the week but can counteract that with a nice burst or 2 at the weekends.

Escort Mexico Lingy ? ...You must be older than even me :) i had a ford corsair 1500 with column change and a bench seat as my first car......used to dream of a Mexico. :)

Cheers Guys, been a help, what are the servicing costs like?

I paid 200 odd quid last time i did mine, that was oil, filters, brake fluid etc. Next one will be £140 though due to some loyal policy which is very kind of them:D.

I get 40-45mpg motorway, 48 is doable if I drive slow, 35-38 in town.

I've got the 170 quattro - averaging about 43-44 mpg over 6000 miles mixed driving. The non-quattro would get a few more than that.

Local indie charged £108 for the first service, including long-life oil ( my nearest Audi garage wanted £270 for the same service )

hehe I just felt sorry for the guy thats all:p.

Ha...you feel sorry for him yet poor old Nats dad has 5 Lamberetta's !! I knew a bloke once who had 3 Vespers and there was nothing they could do for him :)

My CR170 seems to have loosened up quite a bit lately. My driving is 90% urban and I don't hang about yet I'm getting over 500 out of a tank.

Also went out to the Nurburgring in June, which is 500 miles door-to-door and managed each way on a single tank, even though I was cruising at 90+ virtually the entire way and v-maxxed it at 140mph for a bit on the way back :)

get an LSD, stage 3 and straight through exhaust on the ST, stop moaning, rag the tits of her, collect some silly points THEN sell.....

i miss mine

Seeing as the ST dies over 300bhp, the interior is rubbish, it struggles to do high teens MPG i would say get the A3 ;)

dies at 300bhp yes, but with almost 400nm of torque!

also thats not really the point is it, the 2.0 tdi dies at about 200 does it not?

Seeing as it would fail at putting more than 100nm on the actual road, being FWD, it means nothing. I can put all 350 odd nm of mine down, rain or shine ;)

hmmmmm you ever driven one!? mine had no trouble putting that down :eyebrows: (in the dry :ninja:)

...but true, i bet your 350nm (86.7nm at the wheels after mr quattro has eaten it all) down wet or dry.......:p

all jokes aside, i loved my ST but the fuel consumption and interior is painful to deal with, end of the day the st and a diesel A3 are totally different cars and arnt really comparable, i love my A3 and the fact it uses literally no fuel, and still has 170bhp if needed, all depends of if you want to start being sensible or not!

i fill my A3 up about once a month, and i do all town driving pretty much, still must be getting almost 60mpg out of it! it is a nice feeling after having a long line of cars which barely broke into the low twentys driving like a saint.....but i am starting to miss that higly tuned performance car buzz!

tune your tdi:happy:? I'm sure 250bhp 2.0tdi would be nice to drive with all that torque as well! Mikey old engine 2.0tdi (140) use to run 330bhp think he done alot more work lately so most likely pushing more.
Or go all out get an 3.2 and turbo it  Or supercharge either way it would sound beautiful:wub: WANT ONE:laugh:

The fact you're asking on an Audi forum shows that you want the Audi... if you wanted people to tell you to stick with the Focus you'd have asked on a Ford forum ;-)

I think you should get the A3 SB 2.0 TDI (170PS) Quattro BE, myself.... not that I'm biased, I definitely didn't just order the exact same myself. *angelic look*
