As said, tell him to walk away. And it's not an S-Line either... They didn't come out until 2005 and even then they were a Sport with a spoiler and 18" wheels....
No one takes any notice of log books....my new S3 comes up as a 2.0 tfsi S-line
The point is my 3.2 had lower suspension , 18" RS4's, S-line door steps, and black roof lining and half leather It was only the front and back spoiler that was optional but still an S-line...it said so on the side

Yeah agree on the whole S-Line, not an S-Line thing but in 2003 when the new model was launched there was no S-Line.... In fact I don't even think S-Line as a model or brand existed then...
Could be a multitude of things, ideally he needs to scan it 1st, if nothing is apparent then either have it inspected, buy with a disclaimer for the issue or take a walk.
