Question 2.0 tdi reliabity compared to 1.9??

ok new member here, currently looking to change our a3 1.9tdi 100 >02< to a more modern a3 seems the 1.9 is hard to find in sport version in 8p form, ive been told by few people that the start of the 8p 2.0 tdi isnt a great engine as it was new ground for audi ect its was problematic is this true is there a certain year where problems are ironed out? reason im saying the 1.9 is hard found the car will be mainly drove by my misus and it has to be a sport in yellow white red or silver lol any info welcome ,,

get a 140 tdi and you ll be alright, the 1.9 is a more tried and tested engine overall tho. also if your mapping a 1.9 the turbo is smaller n blows easier but thats only if your modding.

    I've got a 2.0 140bhp and it's been great.
There were issues with some early 2.0 TDi cylinder heads which you can read about here:
[2.0 TDI] How to know if your cylinder head will Crack (if it hasnt yet)?

You can check which head it's got and therefore what the chance of problems are, by looking at the code on the head. There are more details in the thread above.

Other than that, I think they're pretty bullet proof unless you modify them hard.

I have a 140 tdi, had it two years and it's been nothing but hassel. 57 plate 55,000 miles, just had to recon the turbo and i've also had various problems with the esp and certain other things. Granted not all are engine problems but from the experience i've had i can't really rate the 2.0 tdi as a reliable engine. I wouldd'nt even say it's that refined either. 2.0 tdi CR is a far more refined engine if you can afford it.

Any 1 know any thing about this ? Im looking around £1000 from audi for a new head + labour to fit very expensive considering I paid £3700 4 the car ? I was thinking would it b poss to get it refurb or a second hand 1 & do it that way changing the belt n gaskit etc whilst I'm there ??? Help please

£3700 sounds very cheap. Is that what 53 plate Sports are going for nowadays?

Could be that price because it was sold with a knackered head I guess. Even when you add £1000 to sort the head out that only makes it £4700, which still sounds cheap.
