Hi

I've got hold of a roadsport egr delete kit from FR&R Tuning and just wondering the best place to put the blank.

I assume it's best to remove all the pipes (the pipe between the egr valve and the egr cooler, and the pipe between the manifold and egr cooler) and put the supplied blank on at the exhaust manifold.
This would leave the egr cooler not necessarily but ideally requiring another 2 blanks on both the inlet and the outlet.
(I've noticed that this is how they do it on the TD5 Landrover Engines here)

What are other peoples interpretations on this?

Best blank it on the egr cooler and remove the cooler to intake pipe. I also blocked it on the turbo manifold so nothing going into to the egr cooler too :)

Whats the benefits of doing this on the A3? Just to stop having to cleaning the thing out or any perfomance gains to be had? I know when i did my Astra SRI 150 it was done to stop the inlet manifold flaps from choking up and sticking (common VX fault).

Hey I'm new to this so bear with me , I've recently brought an a3 2.0 tdi sport 53 reg , I'm losing water !! I'm putting about 1 litre a day in to top it up I've been to a few local specialists & apparently a common fault on the a3 in 2003-04 modles the cylinder head is faulty " prouspous " Baisicly it warps ?? Any 1 know any thing about this ? Im looking around £1000 from audi for a new head + labour to fit very expensive considering I paid £3700 4 the car ? I was thinking would it b poss to get it refurb or a second hand 1 & do it that way changing the belt n gaskit etc whilst I'm there ??? Help please
Mike

Nobody helps thread hijackers and nobody will do a headgasket while you wait. It would take at least a day with skimming etc. Best start a thread yourself mate.

:iagree:

He's posted this in 3 different places that I've seen so far.

Ok, so what are the gains from having the egr blanked off?

EGR DELETE KIT IS A WASTE OF MONEY AS YOU CAN JUST FIT A BLANKING PLATE AND REMAP JOB DONE.

why fit a blanking plate, just take the vacume hose of the egr and then it wont open any more, job done

What vacuum mate ? On the 8P models it's not operated by a vacum it's electronic controled
The easyest way is with the blanking plate & remap

I already have a REVO remap so how would this affect me blanking off the EGR and where do I get the blanking plates?

Thanks

vacum hose is attached to the diaphram on the lefthand side of the egr, remove the hose and block it off with a screw,
pd engines do have a vacum, i dont know if the cr engines are any different?

You are wrong not all the PD models are the same

Mine looks like this : EGR Valve | Meat and Doria
Like i said earlyer no vacum controled, it is electronic.

If you have a bkd engine it is with vacum ;)

My appoligies, as thread title is Egr Delete 2.0 TDI BKD, I thought that's what we were talking about! Current bmm diesels have
electronic EGR's , I should have put pd BKD !!! :(

I would still love to know WHY people do this mod! Could someone kindly explain?

When I have done stage 2 remap with the dpf off I had a problem with the egr.
Something like a loss of power in 3rd and 4th gear at 1900-2000 rpm.
Everything was checked , nothing wrong. After a log with vcds I saw that the problem was with the egr.
The problem was sorted only with egr off.
The engines runs more clean without the exhaust gas recirculation valve ;)

Well got the blanking plate now. Looking to fit over weekend. Any guides on best way to do this? i.e. Someone make it easy for me! Ha!

And as per previous posts - Will this throw up any codes and as I already have REVO will this need anything doing?

Thanks

Yes you will get the engine management light, speak to your mapper and ask them if they can modify your map to dissable the egr for you, then they will have to map the management light out as well,
fitting the blanking plate is real easy, should be no problem :)

Cheers Martin. I assume other than needing my mapper to get rid of the light nd disable the egr will I be ok to just fit the blanking plate initially with no problems?

Thanks

,
yes, your engine should perform as normal. Before mine was fitted the intake manifold, throttle body and egr were removed and i cleaned them out with petrol before re assembly with egr delete pipe and blanks in place although the management light might **** u off if you dont get it mapped out,
good luck :)

How easy is it to fit an EGR blanking plate on a BKD?

My EGR is supposedly stuffed.... As I'm fitting a hybrid I guess this mod would also be wise and save on buying a new EGR?

From what I read this will not adversely effect any other parts on the car, is that corrcect...

Surely this would stuff up the emission test during the MOT?

I'm assuming the benefit is to stop exhaust gasses diluting fresh air, hence higher performance (lower air temp, more oxygen rich etc).

Hmmmm.... Good point mate, but they're are lots of people with this mod sure all of them can't be failing MOT's.... or maybe the plate is removed before MOT :eyebrows:

Blanked mine this wekend! All you need is a plate and a 6mm allen key (think it was 6mm) and possibly two new gaskets. it has thrown a eml up on mine but the car runs noticably smoother!

Cheers pioneer181,

I'd read that the EGR delete was fine for MOT but couldn't quite remember why.

I've also just read that there are blanking plates with a 5mm gap that allow the EGR to still be operational, but the function is reduced dramatically by using VAG.COM to turn it down

Hi Dex cheers for your post mate, mine is supposedly leaking from oil vapor build up whatever that means... I'm told oil doesn't actually flow to the EGR but it is in the air that does and is causing this leak on mine. I asked if the diaphragm was gone as I read this happens if they're leaking oil and was told no.

when i fitted i also ran a tin of egr cleaner through it (this has has both good and bad reviews) so i took the intercooler pipe off which was very oily, like you said this will be from oil vapour!

Only issue is i only had one gasket for the blan which i put on the egr side, when i get round to it im gonna put one one the other side of the blank to ensure no exhaust gas leaks int engine bay!

I have another egr blanking plate that i think im gonna try and drill a 5mm hole in to allow some to pass through and hopefully get rid of the eml!

Blanking the EGR will give smoother running and does not effect the MOT or smoke test in anyway. You need to have the ECU remapped in order to have it done or it will throw a code. We usually do it in conjunction with DPF removal.

Rick

Rick,
Considering upgrading my 140bhp to the 170bhp, what figures would i be expecting with and egr and DPF delete and remap? (sorry for the mini hijak)

Nice ....defo something i will be looking into!

Seeing as noone has answered fully, EGR stands for "Exhaust Gas Rescirculation" and by blanking it off stops exhaust gases being put back into the combustion chamber, which isnt good for performance, only environment reasons, also sends a bit more exhaust gas through the turbo on the occasion, bare in mind that the EGR valve isnt always fed gas from the exhaust, its only on irregular occasions. Best times are motorway speeds.

What do you mean by 'also sends a bit more exhaust gas through the turbo on occasion'?

Sorry to resurrect this post.

I'm going to blank my EGR off with a plate and then get the code mapped out.
My question is, should I clean the EGR out at the same time or just leave it crudded up?
If I should clean it, how is this done? Just by squirting EGR cleaner straight into it?

Chris
