Hi guys,

I've trawled the web for a definitive answer to this but am struggling.

I have a 2006 A3 TDI Sportback (5dr).

One of the bulbs / LEDs in the high / third brake light has gone, not uncommon.

I've taken the boot trim out and managed to get the brake light unit out and unplugged it.

Now lies the problem. Every other forum/post I've read says it's as simple as then replacing the bulbs / LEDs.

However, mine looks like a sealed unit and I'm a bit reluctant to start trying to open it up to get to the bulbs, in fear of breaking it!

Am I going mad and is it easy to get open, or is it in fact sealed?

Thanks.

Its a sealed unit & etka shows no bulbs, so its an led thats gone, new units are approx £37, just get another as time wasted messing with is pointless tbh, 2yr warranty, job done.

I can get 1 & send to you if interested.

I've had a look at the one I removed from my Sportback when I fitted the S-Line spoiler and I'd say it's sealed. I thought they were LED's anyway, as they light up a fraction quicker than the ones in the light clusters.
If it's any use to you, then your welcome to have my old one. It's in perfect working order and I don't need it now.
If you get it at the right angle then you can see a couple of lines in the light that look like a crack in the plastic, although you can't feel anything there. You can't notice it when it's on the car and I only found out they were there when I took it off.
It's up to you, if you do want it then PM your address and I'll post it to you.

Sorry Nigel, you posted that while I was typing. I didn't mean to try and do you out of a sale.

Hey no worries fella, if you can help him for free, then all the better IMHO :)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have an A3 2006 sportback s-line and the third brake light is not working at all - are you still able to supply these?

Thanks

i have repaired these before , carefully go around the inside edge at the back with a stanley blade to break the seal . the led's are easy to swap and only a few pence each . reseal with silicone or sikaflex not mastic as its not water tight

Hi all,

Can anyone please help by instructing me how to properly remove the center brake light. OP at least seems to know but I'm afraid to move forward and risk scratching or damaging something.

Thanks!!

You need to remove all the boot trim, 2 torx screws and the rest just pulls off on clips then you'll have access to the brake light.

Just stumbled upon this post whilst googling the same query. I know it’s been a few years but NHN are you still able to supply these units? Or can anyone point me in the direction of one please and thanks?

I got mine from ebay about £40 delivered , but the part request facility on this forum may also be of use.

Ebay for used or audi/tps for new is your best bet tbh.

What car do you have? I have one available for a sportback non s line (non spoiler)

I just got a 2013 A3 hatchback for my daughter. The third brake light is out, how does it get replaced. It has the spoiler, I've removed the interior trim the 2 10mm bolts and the torx screwin the middle yet I cant seem to get it off. I don't want to break something by trying too hard. Does it slide off somehow?

Are you talking about your spoiler or the light ? the spoiler will have also been double sided taped on and the light has clips iirc, if you look inside you'll see 4 white clips, these need to be squeezed together in order for it to come out.

I'm talking about the light and yes i did see the double sided tape holding the spoiler to the tail gate. I don't remember seeing the white clips but then again I wasn't sure what I was looking for.... I put it all back together out of frustration, I'm ordering the new one before I'll tackle it again.

You wouldn't have a part number just to make sure I order the right part?

Thanks

Give your local tps a call and ask for the part numbers, will also be cheaper than audi. The one i have is the original from my car before i fitted the spoiler which came with one. if the lights are the same you could have my old one, very cheap compared to new and is in excellent condition.

My car has the spoiler and the light sits right under it ? What do you mean by calling the local "tps"?

@Rayrod that will be Trade Parts Specialist who will sometimes sell to the public and not just trade.

Quick question - are you sure the A3 is the 8P shape and not the 8V with it being 2013 - just to avoid any confusion ?
