mixed opinons on this i know

but i really dislike rear wipers, they tend to make the rear dirtier if anything! and i can see fine out of the rear winder with a bit of dirt/rain on it anyway.

Now i know on the Mk5 Golf they have Glass inserts available to fill the hole made by the wiper. Anybody else done this on an A3, are they available? I dont want a rubber bung tbh...
 
they do for the a3 yes a good few members have them my guess is they would be similar to the mk5 ones tbh but do a search on google
 
It comes with a specialised glue, and solvent to get the rust off from where the wiper was. Try not to use to much glue if you can help it, as its hard to get off, and mine still has a white mark that i havent tried to get off yet. Im sure the liquid solvent will get that off!

Seen some comments on here where they have just twisted it from side to side, but mine was an absolute pain to get off...dont know if this is due to being a 2005 model but i bought a ball joint seperator cup from halfords that got it off in a second. Then took it back and got my tenner back, lovely stuff!! :happy:
 
Good luck. If you can't just pop to halfords for that special tool. Mine was a nightmare, but the tool took it off in flash lol!
 
Done this on my golf + leon. I also popped the hose for the washer fluid off on the bottle in the engine bay. Stops the boot lid getting soaked if you hit it accidentally!

Is there two separate hoses on the washer fluid then Adam? I will also do this.

Yeah one for the rear and one for the front.

Due to the way the motor works, the front will constantly flow out the bottle if disconnected but the rear wont. This is how to tell the difference between what hoes goes to what end!
 
Ok cheers Adam, will give that a go.

It's a ball joint separator cup. You put the cup part under the ball joint and just wind the screw onto the part that's holding the wiper together. It's easy to do and work out.

I've had no error codes.

Off topic but what are your lamin x headlights like? Have you upgraded bulbs to see better? I'm wanting to get it done but don't want to have poor visibility.

Anyone know the exact size of the glass blank needed? My A3 isn't here yet so can't measure this myself - getting prepped for it though. :)
 
might aswell ask in here instead of making a new thread, Anyone know how to fix the pipe when its not pumping water to the rear? mines just stopped working for some reason ?

Not sure if it's the same on the Audi's, but on the Golf it's usually because the pipe has popped off somewhere and the water is squirting out somewhere it shouldn't. On the Golf you could easily find it as you had a screenwash smelling stain appear in the roof lining.
 
Check the nozzle. If you put too strong a wash solution in the soap gunges it all up.
 
Agree with what Fivetones says. If it gets too gunged and totally clogged then the pressure has to go somewhere when you try and squirt the rear screen and that's when you can pop a pipe off. Hopefully yours hasn't done that yet, as the joins are usually hidden in really awkward places.
Again, I'm only going by experiences with the Golf, it may be different on the A3, but it's still worth checking as a cheap fix.
 
oh no! well i only pressed it a few times so hopefully it hasnt ****** out everywhere. ok so fivstone you say check the nozzle where is this on the car? i could of over done with the the wash maybe...as i used it abit recenlty.
 
I mean the washer jet itself. Try and release the pipe from the back and then see if the pump will pump it through (the pumps not gone has it?). If that works then take the washer jet/nozzle off and soak in hot water.

ah ok i get you, no the pump musnt of gone as the front washers are working fine. so i guess take off the back plastics and pop the pipe off and dress the stalk to pump water and see if it pumps out.

yeah..because when i pop off the plastic cover and the nozzle part the water shot out fine!

its been sat in hot water for ages so will clear it out later.

That's good news Warren. I always thought it would be good to have something to squirt water at people who get to close to my back bumper :)
 
I thought that was why your washers have 2 (or 3) jets per side. So you had a spare one to soak cyclists with.

I was considering this on my 3dr, loved the blanked off look on my mk4 Golf...but i'm really glad I didn't with my A3, any wet weather at all and you may as well be driving a van!!
 
Does anyone know the size of the hole in the class when the motor is removed? 19mm 22mm or 24mm?
 
24mm. IIRC.

i used a 25mm grommet from halfords, haven't had any problems.
 
Im confused where i need to disconnect the pipe in the engine bay. I tried to disconnect both hoses from the washer bottle (behind the front fog light) and both of them keep running? Thinking about squirting some silicone up the pipe in the boot
 
I'm a fan of the dewipered look but with these a3's the rear gets so dirty!
Gotta keep it clean all the time and rain-x helps a bit!
