automatic probelms

my friend has a problem below any help please


I got audi a3 2003 automatic tdi and after i drive it for say half hour the traction control light comes on and the gear change becomes very jerky, if i stop and restart the car the light dissapears and car drives fine again but after driving for a while again it comes on with traction light and the gear change becomes jerky. Any ideas what this could be?
