Ok so just recently i have noticed that on start up and idle my 2.0 tdi sport is very noisy. I have searched and found one post from an s3 owner with the same problem and some one asked if the sound came from the alternator pulley/tensioner area which it seems like mine does. What does this mean? Does it need tightening or the belt / tensioner replacing?

Thanks

Hmm ******! Anyone know how much this is going to cost me to get fixed?

not sure soz mate , i would have a garage look at it first tho to make sure what it is before you buy anything

Yes indeed, wise words! If this is a problem on a3's then I'm suprised no one on here has needed to have it done and therefore would know how much it costs?!

Get that seen to asap mine lead to a change of engine due to the tensioner pulley snapping and alternator belt lodging itself in the cambelt area :( fortunately sorted by warranty. It really can't be that expensive tbf.

The noise only changes when there are any revs added to idle. Thanks for the advice guys!
