Standard a3 1.9tdi offsets

Had a massive fail today, with the tyre on my Porsche wheels fouling on my airride struts. They were 9 inch wide with et 44.

I put on 8 inch wide genuine s3 wheels with et52 and they are now right up against the strut. I have a feeling that this is due to the high offset and width of the wheel.

Can anyone please tell me the correct offsets i should be looking for for my a3, or suitable offsets for my car on non standard wheels.

Rayvern, (which I have been hearing more and more stories about) But think its firestone bags. They are twin donut type. I believe the kit was fitted by the previous owner though...
