I have a problem with the gear changes on car.

It's a 2004 3.2 and when changing from 1st to 2nd, I get a loud 'clunking' noise. All other gears are ok. It's really annoying now and slightly embarrassing tbh.

Does anyone know what it could be? I was thinking maybe gearbox mount?

i would say gearbox mount , i have one on my car making noises too , the "dog bone " mount is a weak point i think thats what has gone on mine , where is the noise coming from the front of the car or the rear ?

Yeah that's what I though. I remember it needed doing on my mk4 Golf GTi too. It's coming from the front too

Mine does exactly the same, at one point I thought it maybe suspension bushes
As i get the same noise when Going over speed bumps.
Suppose I'm gonna have to get a professional to look at it.
