Need advice on what else is needed with coilovers?

I am looking to get some of advice about what is needed to accommodate coilovers?
I am only going go get budget coilies, probably joms for the time being, as I want my speedlines on asap!
Will save up for a premium set in the future.

So I am just wondering what I shall need to replace or upgrade? Top mounts etc? Greasing the coilies?

    Any help would be appreciated!

You will need to tape up the coilys, and there is no point buying 2 sets just get 1 set and leave that on there lad.

Well I was thinking of the joms as a tempory as there an affordable price at the moment, until I save enough for air perhaps
Could you explain further about taping them up? (complete noob at the mechanical side of things!)

Its good practice to tape up the threads on the coilovers, It will protect them from rust and wear. Basically a spring will sit on two locking collars these locking collars spin across a thread to adjust the height. If the threads rust it can be a nightmare adjusting the height in the future.

Using a tape is always good practice to help keep them clean, In the past i used to use a silver copper grease which worked well and often every 2-3 months gave them a good clean and regreased the threads.

    An example below,

Tape is often better than grease as the grease can sometimes hold little stones etc

on my bora i used a peice of neopryne (wetsuit material) as a sleeve over my coilovers, as well as lots of belzona anti seize, worked a treat for the best part of 2 years until i got lazy,

but yeah tape is a good idea never thought of that!!

N8 told me to use tape on another thread and it got me thinking ...I will be using self amalgamating tape on mine
    Self Amalgamating Tape .
its rubber you can stretch it over things and in threads its ideal for the job .It will also keep it sealed water tight .
Now i just need to get some energy to clean the greece off LOL

I've copper greased mine for now. I'll probably give them a good clean, re-grease & tape them up at the end of the summer before the weather turns poop.

They've been fine. I had the tracking done the other day after about 400 miles and thats actually made a positive difference to the ride, feels smoother than before. Wheels were toeing out a bit, rather than in slightly so werent running smoothly over bumps etc. Mrs thinks my car is bumpy, but she's said that about all my cars with coilovers & compared to her polo daily I guess it is tbf.

I was gonna raise the rears a little today in line with the front, but appears I'm going to need to take the wheel off and take the adjuster out to be able to adjust it, which I couldnt be bothered with today, hehe.

Was quite interesting to get it on the Hawkeye tracker and check out the readouts. Camber on the fronts is -1.23 degrees & 2.2 degrees on the rear, purely as a result of lowering. Not sure what the Audi spec camber is, but I corrected the toe & left the camber as it looks good!

Had KW's on my old MK4 for over 2 years. Never once greased or taped them. Changed the height rarely and never gave me any problems.

As advised, i wouldn't recommend getting budget coilies .. I doubt you'll be able to get much, if anything, once you've used them and try to sell.. A lot easier, and cheaper, to just save up a little more and buy a decent set.
