Hello The Engineer here (chose that name as im an I.T. Engineer)

Decided to join what seems a great community to discuss Audi's, i will confess i have been
a lurker for a few months now and have learnt alot from you guys.

A brief history of my motoring days:

At one point i was a Jap car fanatic, had 2 MK 3 civics. one LSI and a Red ESI single cam Vtec 130 BHP (for those who dont know the ESI was one down from the VTI 160BHP.) Honestly they were great fun to drive. rubbish interiors though.

Then I remember seeing a car at a petrol station that i had never seen before but i liked it, after a little research, alot of hard work, blood sweat and tears i finally got the car of my dreams (at the time, not now i would like to stress)

A 130BHP 1.3 GT Turbo starlet, Went like excrement off a shovel. the spool time of the turbo was little to none!
I was just starting UNI at the time and it was a great little car to drive, run, tax and insure. i would recommend any sensible petrol head between the ages of 19 - 21 to get one!!!

A fews years later i Had a grown up moment and bought a 1996 1.6 A3 - The most boring year of my life. these engines should be banned in a car of this weight. This is my opinion of this car at the time. im sure modern 1.6 engines have a little more poke than mine did.

I wanted fun on a budget, back to jap i went:

A 130BHP 1.3 GT Turbo Glanza! Smiles all round!

Had this around 5 months, it was then stolen from outside mt flat, an awful awful feeling. due to a problem with my insurance i was told i would not get paid out. Things just went from bad to worse.
2 weeks later the police chased it, luckily they abandoned it on a field. It was used on several house robberies, run through speed cameras at over 100MPH (i got speeing fines sent to my flat)

I had to pay £260 to get it back, mainly cosmetic damage, fixed some bits and sold it.

This is my second A3

Missed the comfort of my 1.6 A3 but thats were it stopped.
This one is a 1.8T, i say "is" because i still have and and its for sale. finding it hard to shift it.
was a great car, loved the engine but was becoming a little thirsty for me.

Now to the main event and the main reason im here, my new baby

I absolute adore it, the beady eyes among some of the forum members will know its not an S Line but has had an S Line front conversion by the previous owner (a very good friend of mine)

It has a few things doing as most cars do, essentials are:

- Cam belt due soon
- Service in 300 miles
- 2 new front tires
- loosing coolant but very slowly (i am aware of cracked heads on this model and am a little concerned)
- every once in a while the passenger left rear light does not work, strange i know

if anyone has any advise on the above list please say as it would help me greatly.

Now to things i want to do:

- Remap
- S Line or S3 rear bumper
- New steering wheel (but heard of air bags not working if changed)
- S Line spoiler
- Cruise control (jb0o ill be in touch!)

Hope i have not bored you guys!

Welcome to the forum

Enjoyed reading your thread and seeing the past motors
Hope your enjoying the car and looks very tidy.
Not sure what to say about the coolant issue im sure some of the other guys will be able to help.
Cambelt and service depends where you take it. Had my cambelt changed last year @ 61k by Audi, cant remember the price but wasnt much difference when i was phoning around other dealers and specialist. My car due a service but that will only cost me £99 to be done at my local dealer so not too bad.

Thanks for the warm welcome Ash, read your build thread several times! you have a beautiful motor.

I'm a fan of Euro car parts and will probably buy all the service and cam belt parts myself then get my usual mechanic to do the work.

My car was mainly used for motorway drives buy both previous owners so it has had a lengthy service history, the last cam belt change was around 50k miles ago so it is defiantly due soon.

The picture of your car underneath your post, is that the signature in User CP?

I like :).

Looks like a bit of a pussy magnet ;)

Hahahaha!!!! :jump:

Hey it's not the first time someone has said that!

From what i gather not alot of people on the forum like the RS6 wheels...

I think they suit the A3 quite well

Looking nice matey it has a lot of potential. How about some MY11 rear lights? Didn't see those in your to do list but they make a hell of a difference imo. Welcome to the forum :).

Thanks Gregzy
I agree, i think the MY11 lights look spot on. I've took a wild guess here, i take it MY Means "Manufacture Year"

Looking good... Conversion looks OEM standard! Welcome to the forum!

My friend who owned it before me did the conversion, he bought the parts from a crashed S Line.
He works for a Mercadies approved body repair shop so got it sprayed as a favour. :o.k:

It gets cleaned weekly! even went to one of them car wash guys and bought a pot of tyre shine for a few £'s! you cant seem to but that stuff in the shops. :w00t:

There is some very valuable information on the forum, its great!

Got a few updates with pictures so will post them soon :photo:

yeah im a detailer and some of the stuff ive got you cant buy in the shops lol , yeah i clean mine all the time see my sig (the ocd sticker) its true i have got it lmao , oh and yes my11 means manufacture year incase you were wondering

I little update, i have an iphone and ipod full of music.
looked into buying an OEM head unit that had AUX in but seems to much of a lenghty prossess and expensive
at the moment.

So i went out and bought this:

A great little device for the price, it also can charge the iphone and ipod but i tend not to until necessary.
Its quite simple to use, just set an unused frequency on the iTrip then tune the radio onto the same channel.
Easy! :thrashi:

EDIT!

Forgot to mention it also came with a remote, works perfect with both the iPhone and iPod.

can those be bought for any phone as i dont have an iphone but have a S.E vivaz and have got hundreds of hours of music on my phone

Wow great thread mate,

I may have to copy it when I get me new motor.

Regarding the wheels, my TDI has the same style but in silver and I cant help but think they look very plain, but yours are the second ones I have seen in a 'grey' colour and they look fantastic.

Yeah I think I saw your motor on the picture thread?

If so it looks brilliant ( even if its not yours it still looks brilliant )

Yeah like a rep mobile!

Defo look smart on the black, wish i'd done that on mine now lol

Yes i have seen several different ones that will work with anything that has a jack plug, next time i go to my supplier i can have a look for you if you wish. i can get them trade price.

This is the one i used to use in the yaris i used to drive (yes i drove a yaris, was great on fuel :sorry:)

The only reason i don't use it on the A3 is because i gets in the way due to location of the cigarette lighter plug.

Also it doesn't support charging of the iPhone 3GS or the iPhone 4.

oh and dont worry i used to drive a nissan micra lol only because it ran on fresh air not petrol lol im actually thinking of buying another one to cut down my fuel bill and save the millage on my a3 too

yeah thats what i thought thats why i did them originally as i did the grills black a while ago and had to do the wheels as they looked too boring , but they are very good reps one of the best ive seen in this style loads are shockingly bad reps its funny

Will keep my eye on your thread, looking forward to the updates.

hiya mate, nice motor!

noticed you have a 'concert' cd player...did that not come with the ipod adapter in the back?

Lol cheers folks, I had a 2005 ST220 and a 56 plate ST TDCI so hopefully will be safe :)

Regarding the iPhone gadget, I'm surprised audi or Bose haven't come up with an adapter yet for either the glove box connector or the stupid phone holder ( mine is on the dash and is really annoying! )

Cheers Orts

I'm not too sure about the connections on the concert, would be good if there was.

Think i'll do a search and see what i can find :detective2:

ive got the concert in mine and it hasnt got the ipod connector they didnt have them till much later on

Welcome to the forum I'm a fellow jap to german convert after owing Toyota celica and ep3 civic type r I then went to a mk5 GT tdi golf and now my audi which is by far my favourite. Get the rear lights changed as it completely transforms the rear :)

Loving the grey wheels ;)

Nice car mate, have you got a link to the music device ? where can you pick them up from ??
