    Question WHERE IS THE TEMP SENDER/ CONFIRM PART NUMBER PLEASE ? (2004 2.0 TDI)

    Is it located as circled in below pic?

    VAGCAT says the part number for my car is 06A919501, took out the sensor circled below & its black (expected green) and had a completely different part number on it?



    Can someone confirm the part number I need please & tell me if this is the correct place Im looking on the engine?

    That is the correct part number but I'm afraid I cannot confirm the location except to say it's close to the water pump which I think is on the left side of the engine as you are looking from the front.

    The part you have circled seems to be on the right hand side of the engine !

    There are 2 coolant sensors on a BKD engine, 1 is located down below the tandem pump thats the silver unit just to the left of the airbox/maf black tube, just below pump facing rear of engine, 2nd is in middle of front of engine behind the imf piping, needs very small hands, torch & allot of patients.

    Thanks I pop out and have another look. How do I know which one needs replacing?

    The fault code from VCDS reads:

    16502 - Engine Coolant temp sensor (G62): Signal too high
    P0118 - 000 -

    So, found the one to the right of the block, can confirm it is the part number I posted. Its a 2 pin sender & plug. Annoyingly I have a spare 'green' 4 pin one from my 8L S3 which is the same part number except has an 'A' on the end which wont fit, boooooo.

    Have to order a new one! It better be this sender thats broke, not the other one!

    Does anyone know if both senders on this engine are the same part?

    Likewise, how do I know which one to change?

    The 2nd one as you mention NHN is an absolute a*se to change... I managed to change the one at the front but now its leaking water... the grey 2pin connector I bought has an A at the end the one that came out didnt (the part number was the same obviously)

    The A designation is fractions smaller than the 'old' one but the O ring gasket is very slightly bigger.

    Can't stop mine leaking now... put the old one back in but it still leaks.. Have I installed it incorrectly?

    Anybody have any installation tips?

    TBH its easy to cockup the oring, so remove it after getting some proper oem coolant with a 50/50 mix & try fitting again.

    The newer version iirc was a supercession to possibly the A, I do recall this tbh, I also had issues fitting it in as the oring wouldnt sit in properly, but took me a while & I got slightly annoyed, walked away came back tried again & worked fine, check for leaks when refilled, of course let it self bleed by undoing the small pipe front right above grill as such, leave for few hours, cycle with startup, leave for few minutes check all pipes are hot to see if its circling fine, then undo leave again to bleed overnight if possible, better safe than sorry IMHO.

    Getting the same error described here "16502 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Signal too High" - could someone confirm whether the G62 sensor is the 2 or 4 pin one on a 2004 BKD engine?

    Got the green 4 pin one, but could do with confirming it is the correct one before starting work.

    Mine is a Jan 2004 BKD, its the 2 pin one you need as above I'm afraid, not the green one. Replaced mine now and the EML light hasnt returned since touch wood.

    I replaced the coolant temp sensor in the thermo housing but still getting the fault. This is getting really annoying and to be honest going to have to take it to Audi. I can not locate a second coolant temp sensor.

    You replaced the one at the front? The one I replaced was on the right hand side of the block. If you remove the lid of the airbox you can see down the side and find it easily enough. It faces towards the rear of the car.

    Thanks mate, did find it in the end.

    To anyone else looking to do this, taking the lid off the airbox is pretty much essential to even see the sensor. Here is a picture with the airbox lid and attached pipe pulled to one side.

    Coolant flows out quickly as soon as the sensor is removed so have the replacement to hand!

    Glad you've sorted it. As you've discovered, you gotta be quick changing it over as that water runs out quick!

    TimG & Batt284, I've got similar issues, ive had the sensor changed just in front of the thermostat, the thermostat itself and all had been fine for a few days but now the symptoms are back, did you guys experience this before changing the sensor to the right? My mechanic could find a second sensor although he may have been looking in the wrong place. This sensor issue is driving me mad...
    A. Would it throw up the same G62 fault code?
    B. Is it an easy change?
    C. And by any chance do you know the part number of the senso?

    A. I don't know, but the code I had related to the one on the right that I changed, as the EML light has not returned since. Im not sure theres a different code for the other sensor.

    Sensor was changed over xmas and all is good still

    Hiya, I am trying to replace it on my 2004 8P audi a3 sport, have got the sensor, o-ring and clip but can't find the sensor to replace. Following the coolant pipe around it feels like it must be somewhere on the rear of the engine if it is on the inlet. I attach a photo of my engine, would someone be kind enough to annotate where 'the easy one' can be found, i think it it is at the back here...

    Nowhere near that, the airbox is on the right, remove this & look down to the left, its under the silver tandem pump thats on right side of engine.

    The other is in the front middle which requires a small hand to get in there to remove, its a bugger to refit aswell.

    Its in the hole where the green arrow points, about 12" down there on the block facing rearwards. Undo the airbox lid and move it out the way. Thats all thats needed to gain access. HTH.
