It's using a litre of oil every 5000 to 6000 miles, is this normal? I know modern diesels are supposed to drink a little but but a litre every 5K to 6K?!

Cars a 56 plate S line sportback 2.0L TDI 140 (not mapped), done 35K and it's not been thrashed to death in theis period either.

Comments/opinions welcome chaps.

Mine must be odd then because it doesn't use a drop between services (yearly and I do about 9K a year).

Thats between Audi limits yea, so it seems normal! Mine doesn't seem to use any TBH

Thanks for all the replies, as long as it's normal then that's fine.

All engines will use oil, the PD140 will thus the oil bag velco'd to the side wall in the boot.

However you should NOT use more than 1ltr between scheduled services, tips are let your engine cool down after a run so your using the oil pump and oil to cool the engine. Letting an engine stand and cool will prevent high levels of unburnt hydrocarbons and moisture and condensation which will in turn dilute the oil and destroy the lubricating properties of the oil.
