Fitting new gear knob and gater

Hi

I want to change the gear knob on my partners audio A3 TDI 6 speed.
Is there a guide that I can use. I take it you would fit a new gater at the same time, they look like one unit.

im also wanting to fit a new gear knob as when i tryed to take it off i broke the top of it so now it just spins around all the time DOH!

You need to prise up the surround at the base of the gator, then lift the gator up and there will be a one-use clip holding the knob to the lever shaft. Pop it off then it comes off as a complete unit.
